It's been two years since Jinx broke out of Stillwater and found herself the center of a family built around her protection. Sometimes, she even forgets it's not real. Sometimes she forgets that telling the truth could destroy it. Sometimes she forgets that's what she does-- destroy things.
It's been four years since Vi lost her second family. Sometimes, Vi would like to forget that it was her fault. She won't though-- she never will no matter what Ekko says. So she carries on-- carries Ekko-- carries Silco-- carries the Lanes-- carries the hope that one day Powder will get to come home. She has to believe that. It's the only thing that makes the burden feel worth the weight. It's the only thing that makes the compounding losses bearable and makes her get up in the morning. When Vi sees Silco standing over Powder she manages to break free from Marcus and get back to her sister. The two are captured by Silco– Vi becoming his right hand and de facto leader of the lanes- and Powder being sent away to Stillwater Hold as a hostage. But Powder is done being a jinx to the people she loves. Instead, she’ll use her bad luck to foil every plan Silco has for her. The first step? Get out of the prison cell. The second? To figure out how to get the two well meaning scientist who have taken her in to let her close enough to their research to build a bomb.

That’s it, then. You sort of never thought this moment would come, but it did. Vaugarde is saved. The King is defeated. Your journey is over.
Right. Mirabelle will stay here, or maybe go off on a pilgrimage all on her own. Isabeau will go back to Jouvente to pursue his dream. Bonnie back to their sister. And Odile to Ka Bue.
And you…well, you’ll return to traveling, of course. Just like before. That’s fine. It’s what you’ve always done. It won’t be any different than it was before.You’re just glad that this story had a happy ending.
A moment of hesitation and a faint memory leads Siffrin to make a different wish at the Favor Tree. The party of saviors find their final quest goes much more smoothly than they might have anticipated.
This is not a good thing.

Summary
Two years after their journey to defeat the King has concluded, Odile finds herself back in her oddly quiet home in Ka Bue. She's intent to enjoy her tentative break from travelling, but her home doesn't remain quiet for very long when there's a knock on her door and a very familiar face standing on her porch steps.
OR: Siffrin and Odile try to relax in Ka Bue together, but both are hiding something, and neither is very keen on saying exactly what.
