Summary
At this point, it feels like Lan Wangji’s seen this before a million times over. Whichever the hosting clan is, the cultivation world sits together at a discussion conference, and they angrily discuss the… issue from the Burial Mounds.
Lan Wangji is sent to the Burial Mounds to spy on the Yiling Laozu after the failed Qiongqi ambush killed cultivators from every major sect, made Jin Zixun disappear and left his cousin, Jin Zixuan, heir of the Jin clan, heavily injured.

Summary
Go uses the most elemental materials and concepts — line and circle, wood and stone, black and white — combining them with simple rules to generate subtle strategies and complex tactics that stagger the imagination.
— Iwamoto Kaoru, 9th dan.
“Lan Zhan, why did you start playing Weiqi?”
Lan Zhan has met great many players. Professional or not, they each had their little things about them, and most of them had already been asked that question in their lives on one or ten interviews; the answers varied from family practice, to love of the game, to neither and to no reason. When Lan Zhan gave an interview to a Weiqi magazine after becoming one of the youngest people to become a professional player, he was obviously asked that question.
But he didn’t have an answer.
It’s not that he didn’t like playing Weiqi or that he thought he wasn’t good at it or didn’t have a reason for playing. He just didn’t have an answer; he didn’t know why he played.

Summary
“Would you mind telling me how long it’s been?” Lan Zhan asks.
The client meets his gaze. “Um… I— Is it relevant?” he says. “For— for you to do the job, I mean.”
Lan Zhan doesn’t answer him, not immediately; for a moment, he watches the man squirm. He really wants to believe he’s not being scammed, not just because it would save him a ton of paperwork or because it wouldn’t be the first time — people seeking a cleaning job that is easier to explain and get away with, but then balking at the price and refusing to pay it, since it’s not just a clean up service —, but because this feels, still, a little weird.
He doesn’t seem to be lying, but Lan Zhan doesn’t think he’s getting the full truth.
So, he gives him a half-truth too, “Yes.”
“Um,” he repeats. “I’d say it’s been a few days. Three. Maybe five.”
Lan Zhan nods. He puts down his bag, starting to set up his things.
