Except it's the wrong number.
And a very snarky stranger replies.
A snarky stranger who sounds a lot like Baz.Except it can't be Baz. Because Simon starts to fall for the prickly guy on the other end of his messages, and he would never fall for Baz.

Instead of making them resolve this like adults the producers of the show decided to have them pretend to be bitter ex school sweethearts for the drama. On top of that, they made them dance partners. You know for the ratings.
Simon and Baz didn't go into this expecting that the competition would be easy, but being forced to dance with your childhood nemesis/crush seems a bit like overkill.

After being outed as a vampire at the age of 27, Baz is now subjected to a year of bi-monthly check-ins with his former nemesis before he can live under more “limited” surveillance by the Coven.
Now, seeing Baz again, having him under his “care,” forces Simon to confront his view of Baz, and makes him wonder whether the Coven’s policies towards dark creatures are justified.
