Summary
I have always wanted to write a story where I pushed Tony to the very edge, and then there was not a happy ending. This is my attempt:
Takes place post-Iron Man 3: Tony ended up losing Pepper, even after he gave up the arc reactor and destroyed the suits for her, because a couple of big, dramatic sacrifices don't actually change a guy's whole personality, and suits or no suits -- And arc reactor or no arc reactor. -- he's still an oblivious guy with an addictive personality and severe work-obsession. He leaves Malibu, comes back to New York, but not to the tower, because that's for current Avengers' use only. Once there, he meets up with Loki, banished and powerless after Thor took him back to Asgard to face Odin. Loki is also feeling pretty hopeless.

...But Loki helps.
Post Avengers, post Iron Man 3, post the hypothetical moment that comes afterward -- That's got to come, I am very sure of it. -- where Tony builds a new suit, and Pepper moves out, because let's face it, Tony's got to be pretty hard to live with. Also post whatever happens in Thor: The Dark World, because a powerful Loki, on the loose again, and with some free time sometimes, in between Acts of Villainy, is kind of an awesome concept.

One does not cause mayhem without consequences; Loki takes the plunge and finds himself powerless in an alien and inhospitable part of Midgard. And this is only the beginning of his troubles.

Summary
Thor/Iron Man AU: Tony is the son of US arms dealer Howard Stark. He meets Loki (who is the second son of Odin von Borsohn, head of another arms company) in Berlin in 1931. Then a long time later, they meet again. This time Loki is the head of a German POW camp, and Tony is the downed flyer who is their newest arrival. There is bitterness between them. Tony bears the brunt of it.

When the time comes to pass sentence on Loki after the events in The Avengers, Odin decides to go for the poetic justice angle. For his attempt to enslave humanity, Loki has his magic and powers bound, and is sent back to Midgard and given over to Tony Stark to be his slave.
This was not a turn of events Tony had ever seen coming.
