Alex sees the second Henry makes his decision. He sees him look past Alex’s curls, to the gilded mirror on the other side of his room. He sees him release a tiny, earth-shattering sigh.
“Leave.” Henry says, his voice a whisper. His eyes are fixed on the oriental rug beneath their feet.
Frost licks its way over Alex’s heart. Dread. “Henry–”
“Alex.” Henry’s looking at him now, eyes red-rimmed and so, so dull. Alex, unforgivably, wants to kiss them.
“Leave,” Henry says, and his voice is cold as stone, cold as Alex’s heart, and Alex snaps his mouth shut and turns on his heel.
He flees.__
Eight years after Henry tells Alex to get out of his life, Alex is fine. He’s great, actually: He’s a state representative for the 46th district of Texas, and he’s running a record-breaking campaign to be the youngest Texan senator of all time— and certainly the most progressive one. He’s done a lot of good work. He’s helped a lot of good people. He’s doing what he’s supposed to do.
Everyone else in his life seems to disagree, but Alex knows that, really, he’s absolutely fine.

Summary
I've seen elsewhere the thought that maybe one of Philips friends that Henry used to hang around had forced himself onto Henry at some point, this is baised on that thought. In the aftermath of the emails being leaked Henry starts to not be able to block those old memories and is forced to deal with his trauma and eventually open up to Alex about it. Don't worry, our boys will get a happy ending.
There will be semi-graphic descriptions of Henry's assault before the end of this story, so please read with caution.

“I..” He trails off, pushing at Zach’s chest. “I’m sorry, I think I need to find my friend. I don’t feel very well.” Henry shivers, the heat he’d previously been feeling coming now in flashes. Zach’s grip on him only tightens painfully as he reaches to grab the hand Henry is holding his cup with, placing the solo cup back down on the counter. “Don’t worry about that, Baby. I’ll take care of you.” Zach whispers, and Henry feels himself being shuffled out of the kitchen.
He recognizes that something is drastically, horrifically wrong, but he’s feeling so much so rapidly worse that he can’t do much other than shake his head and shove at Zach with all the strength of a newborn doe. “Oh god,” Henry hears himself moan, his head spinning and his stomach turning over. His front half tips over, legs shaking as he struggles to support himself. A second ago he was fine, and now he feels like hell froze over. This isn't good, he needs out, he needs away from Zach.

He shakes his head.

Convinced he is seeing a mirage of his own making. He is even tempted to rub his eyes as if that will allow him to make sense of who he is seeing. It's just not possible that Alex is here. Here in Oxford, in all his technicolour glory. Older, taller, more muscular but Henry knows the set of those shoulders and the cascading ringlets of burnished mahogany anywhere. Hell, he has done nothing but fantasise about them for the last five years. He knows how they feel as he cards his fingers through them. Can smell the shampoo that they are washed in as the smell haunts his dreams.
But it will also be the world’s worst cosmic joke if his husband is here when Henry is in his second year at Oxford. Even more so as he sees his boyfriend Tom leave the very same shop that Alex is so intently scrutinising.
