Though the house large, the faint sound of piano drifted up the stairs and through the wooden walls, joining in with the chirping of crickets sneaking in from cracks in the windows, and Bunny’s breathing, to create a song so peaceful that Henry let his eyes close with Bunny holding his face, being about as gentle as his best friends fumbling hands could manage. Henry made sure to stay still, to preserve the comfort by not scaring off Bunny, making him run.

Bunny, unusually quiet, simply lay his head on Henry’s shoulder, starting to sway slowly along with the other. Henry felt soft puffs of air against the side of his neck, the tickle of Bunny’s hair against his jaw. His muscles relaxed, shoulders lowered. “Poor Henry,” Bunny said, “Struck by one of his migraines. Had to depart early. But he was perfectly happy for me to stay on.”
While Marion was bored by Richard she actively despised Henry. First of all, she didn’t like the thought of someone else taking care of her boyfriend. Sure, she couldn't afford to buy Bunny new suits and trips to Italy. But if he needed someone to cover his tab in the cafeteria she wished he’d come to her. Second, the man was rude. To her, despite Bunny sticking up for her, but to Bunny, too. She was sure he’d make the argument that his course was far more academic than early education—he could make it, Marion didn’t care—but Bunny was his peer, his classmate.
She purposefully handed Bunny his plate from over his shoulder, hiding the look of utter apathy on her face. “What a shame. Wine?”
The bottle was already tilted over Bunny’s glass when his hand shot across the rim. “No,” he said hurriedly. “Thank you, sorry, out of my mind with tiredness right now, really, don’t know what I’d say if I got into the wine.”
