[INITIAL EDIT 1:]
I hate [love] how obsessed I am with this universe. I can't stop thinking about it whenever I take a quick break from the screen. Good lord, the author has sprinkled [dipped this in] copious amounts of coke or something and I can't stop reading. Thanks to the author for fully changing my mind about Near (and Light). I'm so glad I gave this a shot, despite knowing this fic is far from the kind I tend to read.
God, the dialogue is truly to die for, too. Light and Near and their subsequent interactions here are written better than anything canon (to be fair, yeah, Light and Near's interactions were short-lived and unexplored, really) so, um, my insatiable ass hates that anything set in the Noel-verse isn't exactly mainstream [ergo, not a lot of fics that explore Light and Near together] enough to be picked up by most other writers. If I were only a good enough writer...
Honestly, a major metric for a good fic in my book, is if it devastates me enough to know that it has satisfied something in canon in a way only it can (all I can do is pray hard enough that another good writer writes something in the same universe).
[FINAL EDIT:]
"Well, that was a near thing."
For starters, if anybody told me these works would have permanent residence in my mind several weeks ago, I wouldn't have believed them. L Lawliet (initially my favorite character in Death Note) has no major role in this universe (at least, in-person), and in turn, we have Near (who I initially disliked due to the usual petty reasons other Near haters have) as one of our protagonists, along with Light.
Unexpectedy, Nate River is now my favorite character and I'm more fond of Matsuda than ever. Light, I have so much to say about him, but to sum it up: to say Light is an utter sociopath, borderline inhumane and selfish even when it comes to his family, and then leaving it at that is quite a baseless (partly lazy) take lacking all the nuance of his story in canon. But it is something I see a lot and agreed with for a while. I'm glad this wasn't the case for Light Yagami here. I'm also more fond of him than I thought I'd be.
The chemistry here has altered /my/ brain's chemistry. The BEST slow-burn love story (+ found family) I've ever had the privilege to come across thus far, and it's a Death Note fanfiction (which, honestly, makes this all the better). Thank you, thank you, TzviaAriella–you brilliant, brilliant, soul. The creativity poured in the creation of this universe's canon is unparalleled. It has that additional 'umph' in it–the kind that appears to be an innate aspect of stories written by people who seem to have been blessed with a knack at creative writing. Everybody here is impressively fleshed-out–even the OCs, who all fit as possible characters in the actual Death Note series. You've done thousands of people a huge favor in writing Noelverse, I swear. The sheer intellect and brainstorming it took to come up with the mystery plot(s) and twist(s) made my jaw drop enough times to consider jaw lock if I were so unlucky. I dunno if you still check out bookmarks (and will see this), but as somebody who's a part of the innumerable strangers that have read and loved this, I hope you know this has filled me with so much joy–radiant enough for my family to [be concerned] notice.
I initially found it hard to believe or imagine a proper set-up where Light, staying true to his character (at least, based off the manga), gets a proper canonical 'redemption arc' of sorts in any story without sacrificing the quality of his journey (and make me feel cheated, like he could never deserve such a good ending when taking everything he's done into account) or his interactions with the people he's affected as Kira. That is, until I came across this series. Believe you me, his journey to being a selfless and hopeful (+ considerate and more sympathetic than I thought he'd be) person without losing any of the cunningness or snark he has was so, so satisfying! I couldn't have come up with any thoughtful series of events to justify the development of his character into whoever he is by the end of Reunion. I have so much adoration for how calculated, well-paced (the way the plot is structured makes it feel so difficult to stop turning to the next page just to figure out what happens next), and how obviously taken care of this story was.
I fear I'll be looking hard and long for another series to enrapture me the way this series has. It'll take a while for me to get over the high of having been a part of Light and Near's story to partnership. The dialogue is PERFECT, especially with the addition of the perfectly-timed jokes and innuendos. I mean, each work is worthy and deserving of every kind of praise possible. I'm going to be rereading this over, and over, and over again.
This has to be my all-time favorite Death Note fanwork, easily in my current Top 3 across fandoms.

Summary
L Lawliet doesn't regret sending Kira to his execution. He doesn't feel any sympathy for Light, he isn't sorry he won, and he certainly doesn't miss Light. Not at all.
He would like to know why the world feels so hollow without him, though.
Or: Misa was right. It is a dark world without Light, and L is being haunted.
