“I’ll teach you,” Benders says, and he draws it out so casually that Brian doesn’t even register what he’s saying at first. And when Brian whips his head around to just stare, he finds Bender with his head tipped back, tendrils of smoke leaking from his slightly parted mouth.
“What?” Brian stammers after a long moment just digesting Bender’s words.
“So you don’t fuck it up with your first girlfriend,” Bender replies and he just looks at Brian — his face blank like he doesn't care either way about Brian’s reply.
John Bender — for some reason — offers to help Brian practice kissing with his braces. And for a reason unbeknownst to him, Brian accepts his offer.

Simon watches the blood drip from Grace's nose. He knows exactly what that blood tastes like.
“I hurt you,” Simon says, like Grace is slow. They both know that Simon is the stupid one of the two, even though Grace is too nice to admit it.
Grace shrugs. Like it's no big deal that Simon woke him with a punch to the face.
“Sometimes you get hurt.”

An Eridian mining crew find a human welded into a stranded ship on the surface of a moon. They bring him back to Erid, to the only other human they know.
Something in Grace's chest flickered into life. He had buried it so long ago that he hardly knew what it was anymore, and so he took off his glasses and cleaned them on the edge of his cardigan, as if Rocky's words were a smudge he could clear away before finding the will to hope.
“Ah…” his words failed halfway out of his mouth. Rocky chittered at him, a little sound of encouragement. “There’s another human? Here. And… alive?”
