Seneca had breathed a weak laugh, holding a palm to his stinging jaw. “Why don’t you just fuck me yourself, you coward?”
It had then occurred to Haymitch, seething with pure rage and having nothing good to do with it, that the man made perfectly good sense. So he fucked him. Again and again. For years. For decades, really — until it stopped feeling like retaliation and started feeling like something worse. Something he couldn’t dismiss as survival or spite. Something uncomfortably familiar.

Haymitch felt confident that this was another punishment dictated by Snow. How many names in that bowl were Burdock’s? Was it all of them? He felt an overwhelming urge to find out. It would be easy. All he had to do was knock the bowl on the ground and watch it break into a million pieces, the Capitol’s regime shattering with it as everyone realized that there were no odds to be in favor of. The outcome of the Games was manipulated from the start.

When Haymitch first wakes up on the day of the reaping, his only goal is to make it through his first year as a mentor without falling apart. After his former best friend is selected to be that year's male tribute, however, his goal becomes to stop the 51st Hunger Games before they even begin.

Madam President, wouldn't you like a war trophy?—Plutarch leaned even forward in his chair —Instead of tearing the Capitol's face off, claim it as your own by placing it under your boot. And it would be even more humiliating for the Capitol if its face were happy to be in that position. Imagine Snow watching that spectacle! The heart attack would save us some work.
Alma coin manipulates Snow's 21-year-old granddaughter to use her as a propaganda weapon and for her own pleasure in seeing miss Snow humiliated.
