Summary
"The STEM feeds off of the people inside it. It needs them to maintain balance. The Core is the best at providing this, keeping everything in check. Death inside STEM, especially on the amount we have seen..." Hoffman pauses.
"Go on."
"It would be like slowly removing physical properties from our world, which explains the fragmentation. The less important properties go first, but eventually gravity and magnetism, things we rely on in everyday life, begin to unravel. Luckily, the Core acts as a fail-safe. I think that Lily is trying to help compensate for the difficulty you're facing, Sebastian, but subconsciously. That's why, well, you know."
Sebastian looks at Stefano and takes a sip of coffee to clear his head. The artist has an eyebrow raised.
"That explanation is quite..." Stefano grins deviously. "...obscure."
Sebastian spits out the coffee. In the midst of trying not to choke he is vulnerable and the artist steals the mug from him and finishes the liquid off himself.
Hoffman just stares. -

Summary
“Then who are you to decide when people possess the most beauty? If you’re going by your own little artist’s creed, it would only be natural for someone to disagree with you. In which case, your whole theory about death and beauty is royally fucked. What if someone was like ‘let’s photograph newborn babies because that’s when humans are the purest!’ What then?” Sebastian tilted his head back, banging it against the headboard of the bed. The not-so-soft thump echoed a bit, but he didn’t seem to care. He raised his eyebrows as he took a drink from a beer can--nothing expensive, of course. Still, it seemed that most of their acquired funds went to alcohol, which was scathing, because an artist needed supplies. Stefano put that to the back of his mind, for now.
Artistic disagreement? Varied interpretations of art? Drunk Sebastian was always a surprise.

Summary
Nothing went according to plan. Absolutely nothing. Lily was gone, permanently, and Sebastian had nothing left but revenge; Mobius was still quite alive. The one thing Sebastian did have was an ally, even if that ally was mostly hated and unwelcome. Still, he was better than nothing, and Stefano stayed even though he could leave. But if he left, he never would have learned the meaning of roses.
