Summary
Vegas was like an animal when he was hurting; he went quiet and cagey and rude, but clingy too. Pete and Vegas both had the same impulses: to hide away from the world and lick at each other’s wounds, and to give each other more. It wasn’t practical. But part of Pete did wish they could stay here forever, Vegas hurting and snarling but safe, with Pete. It was probably selfish. Pete would feel guilty if he could, but he’d never seen the point in feeling guilty for wanting what you wanted. Everyone was greedy for something they shouldn’t have. That was just life. And if you were really lucky, you could have it anyway. Pete had never been that lucky, but Vegas had a strange way of making his own twisted kind of luck.

Summary
Pete must be getting complacent, because it takes him a few weeks to find the drugs.
He usually goes straight to the first aid kit in their room, not the bathroom cabinet. Maybe Vegas counted on that. Or maybe it’s just what’s normal, for Theerapanyakuls. Probably they all keep the incapacitating sedatives in the bathroom drawer next to the gauze and the antiseptic and the leftover painkillers from the hospital.
Maybe Pete’s not the best judge of normal. A normal person might ask what exactly are you going to tell Macau if he goes looking for an aspirin?
Pete? He swallows hard, and reminds himself how fucked up Porsche had been when they found him, and tries not to remember how giggly and handsy he’d been later on. Getting out of the car, clinging around Kinn’s neck, hands everywhere while Pete averted his eyes politely. It had been a completely fucked thing to do. Porsche didn’t want it, not really.
Porsche probably doesn’t want a lot of the things that Pete’s brain and gut and dick are extremely interested in.

It wasn’t like the belt had been the worst of it, not by far. The electricity was definitely Pete’s least favorite part, if he was going to start ranking all the times Vegas had tortured him. And the simple endless burn in his shoulders from being chained up with barely enough slack to stand was pretty bad too. Pain was pain. Pete had taken it before and he would take it again, probably, considering their line of work. He wondered if part of why Vegas regretted these scars in particular so bitterly was because he hadn’t even enjoyed giving them. He definitely wasn’t going to say that.
He was just tired of Vegas touching him with regret. He wanted Vegas’s hands on him always, in every way, but not like that.
“Okay,” Pete said. “Then let’s change them, if it bothers you so much.”

As she rejoins the Doctor, Rose puts her hand in his again. His whole body sings with relief; bless that angel of a man and whatever he said to her, because she seems, for now, to have forgiven him for his cowardice. Her storm-gray eyes are kind, as they always are; he wonders if he deserves that kindness, as he always does.
“Come on,” he says, pulling her close with one hand and pointing up at the sky with another. “It’s almost time.”

Summary
Here in the South Downs cottage, Crowley has more than he ever thought he would: the two of them, safe, and he gets to live alongside Aziraphale every day. He still can't bring himself to say it, though, still finds himself wanting, doesn't want to drag the angel down with the mess of his love, doesn't want to ruin what they have.
Aziraphale, however, is getting tired of Crowley staring longingly off into the night sky, and confronts him.
There is more of a balance here than Crowley thought.

The angel smiles. That crinkling kindness, that laugh in the corner of him, bright and deathless and pure, and Crowley’s resolve is melting. Aziraphale does remove his glasses now, fingers brushing his temples, folds them into his own pocket, pocketing Crowley’s last defense. Neither of them looks away. The night sounds clutter around them, the sway of elderly oak branches, the gentle scuttle of a village turning itself into bed, reinventing for the next day, the caw and croon of things with feathers, searching for love. A knowing hum in an ancient throat, leaning in.

Aziraphale, for as many books as he’s read, isn’t sure he has the words to explain the vastness of his feeling, the burden of denying something so all-encompassing. He’d need years to do that. Decades, maybe. Now isn’t the time even for silence because they have important things to do, but he can’t bring himself to break whatever’s happening between them. He’d stand staring at Crowley until they turned to stone. Until Heaven and Hell came to punish them with whatever cruel and unusual means they’d come up with.
(A story in which an angel and a demon survive, Crowley abruptly moves in, and Aziraphale learns about what matters.)
