It was like she was being pulled into a deep cave as she looked at Riftan and saw what seemed to be horror or even fear for the first time that was etched onto his handsome features. His dark, almost black eyes looked up at her face , and he gasped for breath as his calloused hands shook as they grabbed her wrists, pushing her away. It was then that Heberon and Ursuline lifted him.
Maxi slowly stood, her hands hovering out as if he would fall again - like she could catch him despite the fact his large body would only pull her down with him with him once more. She knew all too well that she was too small and he was too large, but her heart pounded in her ears. All that mattered was he didn't fall again.
