A MacBook.
Buck had bought him a MacBook, and not just any MacBook, the latest model. The kind that came with a two-thousand-dollar price tag.
"Buck..." Eddie started, his voice laced with shock and confusion. "Why am I looking at a MacBook right now? I don't need a new laptop."
The look Buck shot him was almost humbling. "No offense, babe, but I live in constant fear that your current laptop will explode the next time you try to turn it on."
Eddie blinked, caught off guard. "That's not true."

Buck spoils Eddie with some well deserved items, but has a hard time accepting them. Good thing Bucks good with his words.

"Maddie." Eddie’s fear matches her own when they meet each other’s eyes again. “You gotta get out. We don’t have time…”
“I’m not leaving you.”
“What about Jee, Maddie?” Eddie grabs it like the steel frame in his side and jams it straight through her heart. “Who’d you rather leave? Me or her?”
For a moment, she thinks of how simple it would be. How badly she wants to get out. To remove the danger, to remove the possibility of leaving Jee, again, of leaving Chimney again. She could get out of the car. She could survive this.
Some part of her wants to, so bad, but she’s staring at Eddie, and thinking of Buck’s shaking hands after he got shot, thinking of Eddie spinning Christopher at the fire station, thinking of all the things this world has to lose if it loses Eddie Diaz. Thinking of all the things her brother would lose.
Thinking of all the things she would lose.

Buck’s stomach churns as he watches the scene unfold. Eddie looks particularly handsome today, his hair slightly tousled after a long shift, his LAFD t-shirt clinging to his muscular frame in all the right places. The office Adonis seems to have noticed too, his eyes raking appreciatively over Eddie’s body as he speaks in a low, sultry tone. And, like, back off, dude, that’s Eddie. Only Buck can look at him like that.

He brushes lightly over his face, starts shaving away the two-o’clock shadow that had started to form on his cheeks and works away on his ridiculous mustache and—
It’s fine, it’s all okay and maybe Eddie focuses on Buck’s hand and the way his fingers are ghosting over his face a little bit too much, but it’s not a big deal at all, it’s normal, actually and Eddie keeps on breathing–
Until Buck’s thumb accidentally brushes against Eddie’s lip and–
Eddie’s breath hitches.
He stops breathing.

Summary
After dinner, Buck wedges himself on the couch between Hen and Eddie. Maybe, if he’s squeezed between them, he won’t be able to feel that weird creeping sensation over his skin anymore.
He drums his fingers on his knee, trying to focus on the TV. Eddie jolts next to him.
“Sorry, did I bump you?” Buck asks.
Eddie shakes his head. “Nah, sorry. Just..” He sighs, rubbing a hand over his face, and Buck feels it again—that pressure, running over his nose and his cheeks and—
Eddie drops his hand and the feeling stops.
Wait.
Or, Buck and Eddie wake up one morning able to feel each other's touch. They make the most of it.

Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”

After finding out that Eddie doesn't know what his love language is, Buck sets about finding out for him. He begins a five week experiment, one for each love language, to figure out which will make Eddie feel the most loved.

As soon as Eddie is passed out on the couch, Buck surveys the damage in the bedroom. Standing amongst the broken glass, overturned treadmill and chunks of plaster, he pulls his phone out of his back pocket and dials a familiar number.
“Buck?” It’s late so Buck’s not surprised by the sleepy voice of his captain. He listens to the sound of bed covers shifting and the soft pad of footsteps before Bobby speaks again, this time a little louder. “Everything okay?”
“No,” Buck’s eyes land on Eddie’s silver star box, lying on its side on the floor, medal nowhere to be found. “It’s really not.”

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

And it shouldn't be a big deal because they’re still partners on the job and work seamlessly together as they have for the past five years, so it's not like they never see each other.
But he still hates it.
He hates Buck for dating again.
He hates that his girlfriend is a nice person and most of all he hates himself. Hates himself for falling in love with his best friend when it was terribly obvious there wouldn't be a chance in hell that he would ever feel the same way back.
