He, Abby, Clarke, Bellamy, and a few others are crowded around a table in the meeting room inside Arkadia, discussing plans to journey into the Ice Nation. Considering the precarious nature of the unspoken truce following the destruction of ALIE, if even one thing goes wrong on this trip, it’s over— and in this respect, it’s something akin to a suicide mission.
So naturally, there’s no hesitation on Bellamy’s part at all when he replies, “I’ll do it.”
And that pisses Clarke right off.

Her blue eyes are searching his soul and they look so bright that she against all reason must have found something beautiful there; and again that surge of want goes through him. A want to go with Clarke. To go to salvation with the rest of them. To go see what a future could be like with her. He wants that, so badly, and he suddenly thinks he doesn’t have the power to resist.

Bellamy works at a bar and when New Year's Eve comes around he's decided the only way to avoid the women asking him if they can kiss him at midnight is to have a girlfriend. He'd learned last year just saying he had a girlfriend didn't work, so he's going to ask Clarke to sit at the bar so anytime a drunk woman asks where his girlfriend is, he can point to Clarke and that will be the end of that.
What he doesn't plan on is Clarke looking hot enough to burn his brain cells, or for the kiss at midnight to be anything but simple, and when Clarke shows up at the end of his shift tell him to kiss her again...well. He's not going to tell her no, is he?

Bellamy was infallibly quiet whenever he left for early morning scouting shifts, and she’d finally managed to convince him to go right back to sleep when someone called her for a late night medical emergency instead of going with her. He was tidier than she was--too often she had to scrounge for her clothes on his side of the room, muttering apologies as she did so--but she had the upper hand on making small talk. Often it was just about what was next on their list for surviving the winter, but still, she made the effort.

Not just because Aurora had been so cautiously optimistic about him not having a soulmate at all—it would only complicate matters, she told him, one more risk to Octavia’s secret existence. But because of the word itself.
He feels that it’s deeply unfair to have to walk around with "privileged" on his skin when he’s anything but. Being from Factory already means rations are tight, and with three mouths to feed when they can barely sustain two, "privileged" feels like a mockery.
Or: to have a soulmark is to carry the vilest things that your soulmate believes about themselves on your skin.
