She’s hated them since she was six years old. She fell out of a tree she had been climbing in their extensive grounds and broke her arm. The young Emily had then spent an uncomfortable seven hours with Elizabeth Prentiss huffing and puffing beside her about how Emily should have known better and she had much more important things to do than spend her day at the hospital and “Don’t you know how important my work is Emily? How could you have been so stupid?”
The hate turned to fear during her time as Lauren Reynolds.

A S7 fix-it in which Emily's trauma is acknowledged and Hotch doesn't want to take her for granted again.
“Thank you,” she says softly. She turns to meet his eyes, trying to make him understand that she means thank you for all of it. For putting so much on the line to keep her safe, knowing the pain it was going to cause. For visiting her in the hospital every moment he could, sitting in the quiet with her when neither of them knew what to say. For never asking her what the hell she was thinking going after Doyle alone with flashbang grenades and automatic weapons while the team tried to build a profile she already knew by heart.
“It’s alright,” he says. “Just let me drive you to the hotel, and promise me you’ll call tomorrow.”
Something squeezes tight in her chest when she realises he’s honestly worried this will be the last he sees of her. Tighter, when she realises it’s something she could do – she could run. She has a bag full of cash and two other identities that are still clean. Her heart races briefly with the possibility. It would be so easy compared to this mess.
“Emily,” he says. “Promise me.”
