Summary
“Pips,” he says lowly. He switches his phone from one ear to the other—like it’ll make any difference, like he’ll hear the right answer through arc of movement. “You didn’t run off to the courthouse, did you…? Last I checked, you’re not married.”
“Do we need to be? That’s kind of old-fashioned, even for you.”
“Yes, you need to be. He does need to marry you if he wants to ask that of you.” It’s like a dream he’s trying to push up against, all his common sense tossed into the mouth of the garbled sea. Wasn’t it you accusing him of acting strange not so long ago? All because of a chip in his brain?
“I shouldn’t have called you.” You laugh, acerbic. “I don’t know why I thought you’d get it.”
Caleb believes that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Summary
It’s not about what he’s already rejected here: it’s about what lives up there, the people Caleb has yet to meet. There may come a day when your brother’s affection will ripen and split and be shared between you and whoever he might choose. You will have your share and she will have hers, and no matter how Caleb is divided between you, her portion will always seem bigger. You imagine her, pretty with no face at all, illuminated, with juice down her chin.
Caleb will leave for Aerospace Academy soon. You figure out what you mean to each other through pain and a series of swimming pools.

You married in Caleb's absence. You found someone. It was fast, and it was lonely, and there was no short or nice way to tell your brother what your life is when he asked you if you’re happy.

Summary
Diluc knows now that it is not enough to play the listener. A line is drawn that separates the time to wait and the time to act. He won’t have Dainsleif confuse him anymore, won’t be told what he can and can’t prevent, won’t submit so easily before any notion of fate. In trying to deter him, Diluc thinks Dainsleif himself has inadvertently produced an inevitable outcome: now Diluc will see to it himself that Kaeya plays no part in this plot, that he won’t doom himself on behalf of a father who failed him so desperately.
What he put forth as opinion will become their reality. This much is etched in stone.
A visitor from afar suggests the revival of an ancient plot. Diluc will not stand idly by—he will do what he must in order to ensure Kaeya’s loyalty.
