So it was fine. Even if Crowley couldn’t love him, he clearly liked him well enough, and that was almost the same thing.
It no doubt would have continued to be fine, or at least fine-adjacent, were it not for a narrowly averted apocalypse and several bottles of a really quite nice Riesling Aziraphale had found in the back room of his newly restored bookshop.

“Oh my god,” Pidge groans.
And then Shiro seals his fate. “But you’re not making me play truth or dare.”
Keith winces; he can practically hear Pidge’s ears perk up.
“You are welcome to believe that if you want,” Pidge says, with the most angelic smile Keith has ever seen on her face. It’s more than a little frightening.

And… Jesus. Shiro gets it, really he does, but whenever people bitch to him about generic messages like Hey or Nice to meet you, he kind of wants to smack them in the face. It would be a different kind of suck, he acknowledges that, but at least they have the hope that comes from uncertainty - their soulmate could be nice, or not; smart, or not; funny, or not. His soulmate is just a douchebag.
But no, that’s not fair. At least he’ll know the moment he meets his soulmate. He doesn’t have the risk of meeting his soulmate and gliding by without realizing it, Hi and Hi and neither of them ever knowing what they just missed out on.

Shiro is recovering, and Keith is coming to terms with everything he's been through since flinging himself through the wormhole after that pod.
“Stay with me,” Shiro says softly.
“I’m right here.”
Shiro shakes his head and tugs again, this time more insistent.
Keith’s heart belts in his chest when he realises what Shiro is asking, and he wastes no time in crawling onto the bed beside him and settling against his side. Shiro’s arm curls around his shoulders and pulls him close, and for the first time in a long time Keith can’t think of any place he’d rather be than right here.
“I missed you,” Shiro says softly.
He’s asleep before he can realise that quiet tears are staining Keith’s cheeks again.
