The first thing that popped into Buck’s mind was, oh God, he’s gonna be my new captain.
“You did?”
“Yeah.”
“Wh- What is it?”
“Air Tanker Captain. It’s… It’s in Colorado.”
Buck was fairly certain there was an audible thunk as his heart fell directly out of his chest and onto the floor.
“C- Colorado?”
Tommy nodded. “Colorado.”
“That’s-” Buck swallowed down the giant lump growing in his throat. “That’s Colorado.”
“Yeah. It is.”

Summary
Ever since Buck moved into his new house, they've been spending more and more time and found out new things about each other. It was a blessing and a curse. On one hand he loved spending more time with Tommy but on the other hand it took every fiber of his being not to lean in and kiss him. Sometimes he felt like Tommy might think the same but he wasn't sure if that was just his mind being overly hopeful.
If only he could ask Bobby for advice one more time. He was the only one who really understood him.
Suddenly an idea popped up in his mind. The Day of Dead wasn't about mourning your loved ones but a way to cherish their memories and to welcome their souls back into the living world for a short reunion.
A reunion with Bobby was exactly what he needed right now.

Tommy studies him for a long, silent moment. Then, he asks, "What do you need, Evan?"
Buck’s breath hitches. It's the first time someone has asked. It’s the first time he thinks about the answer.
He looks up, looks up at the clouds which are barely hiding the sun. Thinks about how small everything is from up there. Small and far away and ... Out of reach. He would be out of reach.
"Can you take me up there?" He asks, swallowing. "Just ... For a while?"

Buck tells himself and everybody else he's fine. When he meets Tommy at the funeral, his walls start to crack.

"Be very careful right now, Evan," he whispers back. "I do not like Eddie Diaz right now, and not for the reasons I expected I wouldn't six months ago."
"What's that supposed to mean," Evan murmurs, looking back at Tommy. The only light in the room with them is the light from the moon and street lamp emitting from the window, but he can see how wide Tommy's pupils are.
The pilot's hand runs down the center of Evan's chest and abs, slowing to a near-glacial pace as his fingertips slip beneath the waistband of Evan's joggers.
"It means I won't be nice," Tommy whispers, sliding his tongue along the shell of Evan's ear. The younger man shivers, lets out a soft moan. "It means I'll be an asshole on purpose. I'll make you scream just so he has to hear it." He leans back and reaches up for Evan's chin, turning the younger man toward him. "Not because I'm jealous. I'll do it because I want him to be miserable in the next room with no way to drown you out."

He can’t risk losing anyone else, he won’t lose anyone else, not if he has any say in it. So if he has to be overbearing, he’ll take it. Rather alive and annoyed, than… well. The alternative.
