    In a world where homophobia and queer fear doesn't exist, in a world where love can happen out in the open for anyone and everyone, Shane Hollander is still stubbornly single.     That is, until Ilya Rozanov enters his life. The newly single Captain of the Ottawa Centaurs, after a decade-long relationship ends amicably, is now interested in the one man who won't give him the time of day.

    So when Shane, while on National Television, tells Ilya he'll have to "impress him" to earn that first date, Ilya takes it as the greatest challenge of his life. What follows is a whirlwind of grand romantic gestures, public flirting, chirping (flirting) on the ice, social media ploys and and ever escalating spectacle. All while the NHL, their friends, their family, their teams, and fans across the continent watch, cheer, and place bets on when Shane will finally say yes.

He has interviewed Ilya Rozanov fourteen times in a professional capacity. He has written 47,000 words about Ilya Rozanov's career. He has approximately zero words for what happens when Rozanov corners him in a hotel corridor after Game 7 and says, very quietly, in that voice: "You always leave before I can talk to you." Shane has absolutely no idea what to do with that.
    (Or: Shane doesn't play hockey. He just writes about the man who does. It is, objectively, worse.)

    He was scanning the room to see where Ilya was... Oh there he was ! Shane's eyes finally locked on him. He was unfairly gorgeous. But something inside Shane was not feeling right. Yes Ilya looked fine. But also Ilya was smilling, smirking even at a woman. She was a beautiful woman too. She had a hand onto Ilya's bicep and she was laughing, head falling down. And Ilya... Ilya was letting her touch him.
