Tom grew accustomed to Harry’s presence in his life; though the aching thirst remained, the impulsive thoughts surrounding it had waned. It was under control. He was under control. This enabled him to turn his attention to plotting—a difficult task while Voldemort was around—how to feed on Harry without drawing unwanted attention.
Voldemort was aware of Tom’s inclination to disobedience, but he would not act unless Tom made a specific plan or decision. Still, even with this small freedom, the problem appeared insurmountable.
