He makes a wide circle around the house to the bay windows overlooking the main road. Ernie the bear glares at him through them, leaning forward with the malicious intent to suck years of life out of any passerby with his one evil eye. But of his wife, not a shadow is to be seen. Surely then, he could count on the promise of hot food and a pair of soft, loving arms. He returns to the door and throws it open.
It takes all his willpower not to throw himself back out as a wave of hot air blasts his cheeks and the smell of burned food sears his nostril hairs to ash.
“I’m home.” He calls out, but there is no reply. His eyes narrow as he remembers the words one Kenny Ackerman brayed at him every time he came home late from school to find no food in the fridge...

Summary
Mikasa, a baker's assistant in the sleepy mountain village of Milos, wishes for more than her peaceful, uneventful existence crowded with petty girls, wisecrack women, and hot-headed suitors. Her wish is granted in the most unexpected of ways when she rescues a dying amnesiac with a strange amulet clutched in his hand. In a thrill of excitement, Mikasa takes it upon herself to help 'Pip' recover his identity and grapple with the amulet's obscure power to re-enact any story of the amulet's choosing.
But around the same time Pip appears, the mayor of Milos mysteriously disappears, leaving behind a restless community that grows increasingly unstable without its leader. And as events snowball into a catastrophe beyond her control, Mikasa is forced to evaluate what home and identity mean to her and decide whether she would fight to protect what she has, or what she does not.

Summary
“Shall we?” Levi jerks his head towards the bar.
Mikasa nods, heart pounding and throat dry.
They approach the entrance. The bouncer checks their IDs and gives them a once-over before stepping aside. On their way in, Mikasa reads a phrase written in pink glow-in-the-dark paint against a dark purple background.
“Welcome to the SouLala bar, a place where souls collide and dreams revive.”
“Sentimental hogwash.” He scoffs.
She sighs. “Isn’t it just.”
Or: Mikasa goes to a college reunion to find everyone has flaked except for former study partner Levi. That night in the magical atmosphere of the SouLala bar, she reminisces on the events that initially brought them together, pulled them apart, and now brings them together again.

He looked down at the floor and inspected his shoes with great interest, unwilling to meet her eyes.
“Do you…” He cleared his throat. “Do you… ever regret getting married?”
She blinked.
Of course, she regretted that things had ended in a trash-fire with Loki. But did she regret what they’d had? That they’d been in love? That they’d supported each other, and grew together, and raised a wonderful, brilliant, sweet human being together? No.

Summary
Mikasa has adopted a simple, predictable and quiet life. As the personal guard for the Queen, she attempts to convince herself that the significance of this post provides enough purpose for her now that the world is free from titans. Yet without the comfort of her best friends or the chaos and camaraderie from days past, she struggles to find true contentment after the war. Only Levi, whom she has developed something of an odd friendship with over the years, challenges her on the lonely, directionless path she wanders.

Summary
For twenty-three years, Mikasa has been unsure of some things. Does pineapple go on pizza? Is it pronounced Caribbean or Caribbean? Is it “Berenstein” or “Berenstain” Bears?” Yet Mikasa has always been sure that she loathes dogs.
That’s right. Mikasa dislikes dogs; not truly hate them, as her adoptive brother, Eren, seems to love them very much, and she would at least tolerate a mongrel in his presence just to appease him. Eren would say that the reason Mikasa appears frigid is because she has never felt the love from a dog. They would scatter away whimpering after she shoots a withering look.
But she doesn’t mind. Mikasa is actually fine with living alone in her animal-free apartment without any worries of ever returning to shit on the carpet, turned over trash cans, or shredded couches. It’s not like she dislikes all animals; cats, rabbits, and even lizards, are cute. Dogs never liked Mikasa, and Mikasa gladly reciprocated the same feeling.
