Summary
To anyone paying close enough attention, their relationship was strange. Everyone knew that the two courtroom rivals had rekindled their past friendship after the resolution of the DL-6 incident and had been growing closer since. But as time passed, their relationship started to evolve past that. They worked on cases together, went on lunch and dinner dates that could be because of work, but happened much too frequently for that to be the case. During Phoenix’s disbarment Edgeworth had flown him and his new daughter out to Europe to help with his work, and when Miles was in the states, he occupied a guest space at the Wrights’ residence… or at least that had been what their associates thought.

Did he really just say that? Yes. And it came as a shock to Phoenix—Phoenix, who had spent the better part of his life wanting nothing more than to reunite with the Miles he’d known—that he meant it. Because what was he doing? What sort of masochist spent sixteen goddamn years torturing themselves over a man who took every opportunity to prove that he didn’t care. Phoenix couldn’t keep doing this to himself. He’d go insane. “If Maya hadn’t been taken… If Franziska hadn’t been shot… would you have ever come back?”
Edgeworth’s grip tightened on his elbow. “No. I don’t think I would have. Certainly not for a very, very long time. Nor am I planning to remain here for long now that Miss Fey has been rescued. I only came because Gumshoe insisted that you urgently needed me.”
“You think that was the only time I needed you?”
