Summary
“Hey, beautiful,” he says, and Athena’s eyes open. She dreams of his voice most nights, the warm timbre of it right in her ear, the way he’d say her name sometimes just to say it.
“Hey, handsome,” she says back, quiet. “I’m dreaming, aren’t I?”
“Pretty good dream if you ask me,” he says, that little slant of humor in his voice.

Summary
“Maybe you should try casual. Date a friend who would still be your friend after you break up,” Buck says, and in the same breath, without thinking, “Date me.”
He snaps his mouth shut, his entire body flushing with heat. Eddie looks at him for a very, very long second. “You.”
Through the sudden panic, Buck’s mouth goes on autopilot, “No sex, just a few dates, we’ll have an amicable break up. I already know and love Christopher. And anyway, I’m a guy. So, no need to worry about you catching feelings either.”
-
Spoiler alert: it’s not casual. They don’t break up. And they have sex.

Summary
Eddie laughs at him, but he wraps his hand around Buck's soft dick, relishing Buck's sharp inhale at it. "Sensitive?" Eddie asks quietly, squeezing a little to watch Buck squirm.
"Yeah," Buck says, pupils blown wide, breathless and eager as ever. "More?"
"Yeah," Eddie says, cheeks warm, and he ducks down to take Buck into his mouth.

Summary
He grasps at consciousness as he listens to Eddie moving around, the bed dipping close to him. Everything smells familiar here, like them, him and Eddie, and the bit of him that’s still able to think realizes he hasn’t been afraid of falling asleep. That he hasn’t been thinking about waking up in that other place, that he hasn’t wondered if he’s halfway to the grave, if he’s going to end up in that not quite right dream again.
That he knows where he belongs, and he wants to keep it. He wants it, desperately wants it, more than anything he’s ever wanted, and he has it, he’s not going to destroy it, and it’s a relief, knowing that.

After getting struck by lightning, Buck’s emotions have been a tidal wave. As always, Eddie’s there to catch him.
Or, Buck and belonging.

Summary
“I don’t know if I can get it up,” Buck says, voice hoarse, because it’s only right to be up front with that, though he doesn’t think Eddie will mind, not when they’re wearing twin expressions shadowed with grief still.
“Don’t care, really,” Eddie says, looking weary, coming over, and Buck scoots back so his head lands on his pillow and he can open his arms when Eddie crawls in close, their noses bumping, breathing each other’s air.

Summary
“I didn’t know what I was going to say to you,” he confesses into the safety of Buck’s shoulder. “I was practicing in the car.”
Buck doesn’t say anything for a moment. “Anything you said would’ve been good,” he offers, like it’s obvious, voice warm all the way through, and there’s something different about Buck’s warmth than the sun on his skin in El Paso, something that cuts the last string keeping him there, that tames something within Eddie’s chest that has been begging to be let out.

Summary
“I would’ve known if Eddie loved me,” he says, voice cracking, and that’s the heart of it. He would’ve known because he knows Eddie, because he worked hard on knowing him, everything about him, and if he had known, he would’ve loved him too because that’s what Eddie would have deserved and because it would’ve been easy loving Eddie back and because he would’ve been in love with Eddie too, if Eddie were in love with him. “How could I not know?”

Summary
He’s just inspecting one of his own hoodies, squinting at a hole he thinks he spots in the sleeve and he leans forward not really caring about where his face ends up and then he breathes in and Eddie’s scent hits him, his cologne, and it hits Buck that he was forgetting what Eddie smelled like.
His face is only half in Eddie’s hoodie. He doesn’t think, turns, presses his face into it, breathes Eddie in, and then his hands are pressing the fabric into his face so he’s engulfed in it.
-
Or when Eddie's sheets stop smelling like him, Buck makes do.

Summary
Buck has never looked at him like this, never noticed how alive he is. Eddie swallows, throat bobbing with the motion, and suddenly Buck understands that beneath all of Eddie’s miles and miles of smooth skin, there are muscles and arteries. There’s blood. He’s a diagram laid out, organs tucked under bones.

Summary
He’s still greedy, even now. Still can’t figure out how to loosen his grip on it just a little, knuckles white with how hard he’s holding on, but he’s trying so hard to give Eddie space and time because he asked for it, because when they got together, Eddie couldn’t seem to stop looking at him when he asked Buck to be patient with him, couldn’t hide the nerves from his voice, the vulnerability of his open chest, the honesty in his fingers against Buck’s wrist where he’d held on so gently as if he was afraid to come any closer. So Buck is trying, to just sink into having it rather than wanting more, to let it be enough rather than him being too much, and he’s been doing good, mostly. He’s been doing good.
-
Or asking for what you want is asking too much of Buck, except it isn’t really. Not when it’s Eddie.

Summary
Buck kissed him. It didn’t feel like a declaration the way kisses usually do. It didn’t feel stifling. It felt like a plea. It felt like exactly what he said, like don’t go. Buck is still getting over Tommy, and Eddie is straight, and the two of them—it’s easy between the two of them.
The engine roars and Buck turns to look at him, eyebrows raised as if asking if he’s ready. Eddie nods, swallows, and puts his head back. Buck kissed him, and they won’t talk about it, and Eddie’s fine with that because really, Buck’s the only thing that’s ever been easy for Eddie.

Summary
It’s just—he’s exhausted. It’s just that he was off all shift and no one noticed. It’s just that Eddie is barely standing, and he’s not going to collapse, he’s not, but he thinks he might stumble.
He thinks of his empty bed at home, and his chest feels tight.
It’s just that—it’s okay if it’s Buck. He can let Buck catch him.

Summary
Eddie thinks, as he munches on a fry, that he’s angry. He’s angry that Buck was ever wronged, that Buck even felt he had to give him that look. He’s angry that he can’t just fix it, that he’s not good at fixing things but he’s really good at messing things up. He’s angry because he’s afraid of failing when Buck needs him.
He’s angry at Buck because he’s not here, and he’s angry because it’s easier than grief, because Eddie thinks this might be a type of grief. Because he misses Buck when he’s right there, because Eddie thinks this might be another thing like all the other things he needs to deal with, the things he pushes down so deep because just letting them sit around is enough to hurt.

Summary
“The only way you can trust me,” Hannibal says softly, as if reading his mind, “is when you can’t trust yourself.”
“I illuminate you,” Will whispers. “Is this you illuminating me?”
Hannibal’s mouth curves up. “You are a moth in my flame.”
“Will you burn me?” Will has to ask.
Hannibal’s eyebrow lifts. “Don’t you want to be?”

Summary
"And I—I can’t—I can’t have permanent again,” he says, his voice breaking. “I can’t let someone new get that close.”
“I’m close,” Buck says simply, only teasing a little, but Eddie goes quiet and gives him a look that steals the words right out of Buck’s mouth.
It means something, he thinks, but he doesn’t know what. Eddie swallows, and Buck tries to decipher what that means, watches Eddie’s throat bob, stares into the darkness of his eyes.
“Are you permanent?” Eddie asks eventually, voice slightly hoarse.
Buck can’t tear his eyes away. “Yes,” he replies quietly. “I’m permanent.”

Will’s breath feels crushed in his chest. This time when the urge rises, he reaches up to touch the corner of Hannibal’s still swollen mouth. Hannibal lets him. “You just wanted to get your mouth on me,” Will whispers.
Hannibal doesn’t look any more human than usual. “Yes,” he confesses softly. “You looked quite willing under me.”
Will shivers. “Like prey,” he voices.
Hannibal’s eyes close. “Yes. Like prey.”

Summary
“I like listening to you,” Wen Kexing mumbles. “And looking at you,” he adds on, his eyes never once leaving.
Zhou Zishu doesn’t look away either, heart melting in a way that he’d never thought was possible for him. I want to live for you, he thinks fiercely. As I never have before.
