    No one even knew it was his birthday. Merlin had never told anyone and no one had asked either way. There was nothing worth celebrating in his opinion. A year older is all the same to an immortal. It was a pretty normal, sometimes even miserable day for him. There would be no cake, no gifts, no ‘happy birthday’s. Not that he cared either way, until something unexpected happened on that day.
