Summary
When she runs her thumb across its plastic case and asks why this (which sounds certifiably girly) and not another Stephen King novel, he snorts. “The movie version is coming out in October, and I’m still holding you to that movie date.”
Despite herself, the corners of her lips turn up.
“Plus,” he continues. “I heard it has a happy ending. And I kind of want one of those.”
Before she can reply, there’s a deep pang in her side, like the twist of a knife, but she smiles anyway. It’ll fade soon enough. “Yeah, me too.”
Or, Max in the aftermath.

Summary
In one hand, Lockwood gripped the spare rapier they kept in the old chipped plant pot, and with the other, he twisted the doorknob. When he swung it open, he tightened his hold on the sword hilt, because a figure stood just behind the iron line, cloaked by the shadow of night. Then, his eyes adjusted to the darkness, and he recognized the sheared bob of hair and the roundness of cheeks and that weary, crooked smile.
“Lucy?”
Or, just after midnight, Lockwood receives an unexpected visitor.

Summary
As Kipps squinted at the brightening sun, he had to wonder: had Lockwood forgotten he was there? Or did he not care? Knowing Lockwood, he probably had seen Lucy and everything else fell by the wayside. There was no way Lucy hadn’t noticed him there, underneath the patchwork quilt on the floor. But then again, Lucy was not particularly observant, and there was a good chance she thought he was merely a pile of blankets tossed aside.
Or, Quill Kipps and his unfortunate penchant for disrupting private moments.

Summary
“I just don’t understand why you do this,” she muttered.
“We got the Source, at least.”
Holly let out a long breath through her nose. “And I’m sure Lucy was impressed by you tearing apart a kitchen and bolting into the hall to single handedly fight a very powerful Visitor in the process.”
Or, the Ealing Cannibal case, from a different perspective.

Summary
Of course, Lucy shrugged off his concern, said something about it being fine, about Holly being there to look after her. As if Lucy would ever let Holly look after her. There was a tightness to Lockwood then—a warring of his features that underscored the doubts he had over Lucy’s reassurances. Holly wanted to scream, ask to switch partners, but at Lucy’s intractability, he faltered, gave them a smile, and said they’d meet back up in a half hour before he left.
Their psychic survey continued. In dead silence.

Annabeth doesn’t know why she did it. She never does anything without a good, logical reason. But this one keeps slipping out of her grasp, like something blurred in the periphery of her vision she can never really focus on, no matter how hard she tries.

Summary
For Prompts in Panem farewell tour Day 2: What if? What if Peeta and Prim hadn't been reaped? Inspired by the canon line ‘this would have happened anyway’.
(Contains lines directly lifted from, and paraphrased from, The Hunger Games trilogy, as well as scenes from the books reenvisioned. 'cause that's kind of what fanfiction is. Thanks Susanne Collins.)
Trigger warning: child abuse, canon-typical violence. Rated M.
