He solves the case. Or at least tries to. Sometimes - when he’s conducting interviews, speaking to Evrart, or even paying a visit to the nightclub-drug-lab in the church, he’ll instinctively turn to his side, and he’ll hear the lieutenant-yefreitor’s gravelly voice. Something about hard-core, superstardom, or those familiar “none-of-the-above” responses sprinkled with the occasional flavour of communism. Of course, however, he isn’t there.

“[Mike] opened his mouth to reply but had to pause as nausea took hold of him. He swallowed thickly against the acidic feeling in his chest, against the bile that stung at the back of his throat.
Alison squinted up at him. “Mike? Are you alright?”
There were bright spots upon his vision. He tried to blink them away.
“I’m fine, why?”
“You’ve sort of—” Alison chewed at her lip, concerned. “Well, you’ve sort of got—”
“Good heavens, why can’t I move?” a deep, clipped voice asked. Mike looked over his shoulder, bewildered. Where the hell had that come from?”
Mike gets possessed by the Captain, who cannot seem to figure out his newly discovered power. Trapped together in one body, they must learn to co-exist. Not getting in each other’s way proves to be impossible, however.

Summary
Wedding season approaches at Button House and, for once, everything is going off without a hitch. Of course, there’s the slight issue of Pat’s recent epiphany about his sexuality, Kitty’s determination to get her hands on as much badly-written erotica as possible, and the peasants becoming decidedly revolting. Still, if only the ghosts can refrain from murdering any of the builders, Alison is fairly sure they can pull this off.
Or, Pat and the Captain negotiate coming out, even if it's only to each other.

She laughs lightly, lilting. “Hiccup,” she says, then– “well, I suppose you were just a babe,” and she reaches up slowly, taking off her mask. Her mouth lifts slightly in a quiet sort of smile.
“I’m your mother,” she tells him.
Hiccup laughs, for lack of anything better to do.
Then he realizes she’s serious.
Or: Instead of facing the Monstrous Nightmare in the Kill Ring, Hiccup packs up and leaves Berk on Toothless, defeating the Red Death on his own as he goes. Four years later, he turns his attention to dragonkind’s biggest threat: Drago Bludvist. In search of allies, information, or anything at all that could give them an upper hand against Drago, Hiccup and Toothless head north.
What they find instead is one Valka ex-Haddock.
Their reunion, it’s safe to say, doesn’t go quite as smoothly as it might have in a certain movie.
