Summary
The drinks help, their potency magnified by Alex’s intoxicating presence. Henry’s beginning to realize how very wrong he was but also how very right. He thought he knew Alex, but it turns out, beneath all the charm and charisma, the man is just hilariously odd, prone to manic rants about the most inane subjects, full of both ambition and conviction. Henry likes Alex best when he’s unfiltered, like he’s getting a peek behind the curtain. But one thing has remained true: Alex could set him on fire, and Henry’s growing closer and closer to handing over the matches himself.
Hours pass in a whirl of empty martini glasses, uncouth laughter, and some of the most absurd stories Henry has ever heard. Alex’s energy is, in a word, magnetic. Late night phone calls and quippy texts have nothing on being in the man’s presence, watching his eyes light up as his runaway train of thought barrels towards the next station.
