Summary
Convergent series operate by a kind of dream rationale, or the logic of riddles: ever nearing, never reaching; gaining ground, but ever slowing.
The finish line recedes.

Bookmarker's Notes
Fuck, dude. I have given some thought as to whether I would have been quite as scorched right to the bone by this if I weren’t so very intimately familiar and fond of all the music, and I think it’s yes, I would have, actually. Sometimes living is surviving is holding the ether-mask to your own face and cauterizing the wound, and cauterizing it, and cauterizing it, and then lying on your back on the floor in the dark a few years later as sensation begins prickling in the scar tissue.

Bookmarker's Notes
Fascinating, unusual, sometimes even transcendent use of language, plus compelling mixture of detached, almost fairytale-esque elements and visceral, emotionally saturated scenes. The visuals come through richly; I have a clear picture in my mind of each setting. The power dynamics of the shaving scene have deranged me entirely.

Bookmarker's Notes
A razor-sharp study of love grown twisted and thorny, bristling with sexual tension and set against the ominous backdrop of the escalating war, with doom scratching at the door (or in the walls, at it were). Sirius's perspective is blistering, his feelings for Remus complicated and real, and the prose has a relentless, bruising quality, like falling down a very long set of stairs. You don't read this story—it sucks you in and spits you back out.

Summary
You heard a riddle, once. Or maybe it was a story. Aren’t riddles kind of like stories, except that the jackass telling the story won’t tell you the ending? Makes you guess the ending yourself, based on how it started?

Spike’s double vision as mind-fuck and metaphor, and the philosophical conundrum of survival. The focus here is on Spike, but his collisions with the rest of the gang are rich and carefully treated.

The thing about Matty Ruiz, Kevin thinks, the thing that keeps Kevin coming back for more and more and more, his goddamn masculine mystique, is that he’s just so fucking uptight.

GOD. To be clear, all of this author's Matthias & Maxime stuff is a gift to the universe, but this is the one that broke my ribs and stole my lunch money, especially the end, especially having read Miss You Like a Home. Jesus Christ.
Edit for a coherent rec instead of just flailing: I adore characters like Kevin McAfee, particularly deconstructed and vulnerable like he is here. There's a lot of tenderness between the lines of this story, at least to my reading, which juxtaposes beautifully against what we know about how Kevin presents himself to the world. It just—yeah. This one got me.
