The lace placed overtop a white base doesn’t irritate her skin at all and is fairly easy to move around in, but the intricate design gives the impression to an uneducated observer of crispness, cleanness. Togetherness, that’s what she’s been trying to channel for all 32 years of her life. And I’ve never achieved it, she thinks as she grabs a cream tote bag.

Summary
Having a child in the middle of an icy wasteland and far from any kind of civilisation, with diminishing supplies is not at all ideal. Especially when the parent most affected by it also needs to keep the ordeal hidden from over 100 crewmen.
James is rendered numb by the sheer mass of upcoming difficulties, and Francis is forced to shake his usual tendency to wallow in misery when faced with such odds. There’s nothing to do but make the best of it, see that James is undiscovered and safe, and that their child gets to live to see a warmer place.
