Summary
The marriage of convenience fic no one asked for.
The morning after the Netherfield Ball, while Mr Collins is proposing to Elizabeth, Mr Bennet collapses. With her father unconscious and apparently near death, her mother pressuring her to marry Mr Collins, and the gentleman himself ignoring her protests, suddenly saying 'no' is not so easy. Faced with poverty and homelessness if she continues refusing, the gossip soon reaches Netherfield that she will have to marry Mr Collins. Just as Mr Darcy is about to mount his horse and follow Mr Bingley to London, never to return, he overhears the servants talking. The thought of Elizabeth married to a fool like Mr Collins is unbearable to him, and he resolves to make her a better offer. But, when she refuses him, he finds that he's willing to do anything for love - even marry her without the hope of being with her.

Roger Hamley has six months to finish his African research, and then he might try for Molly, if he only knew how to speak to her. Molly Gibson has six months to fall out of love, and then she might try to befriend Roger again, if she only knew how to do it without making a fool out of herself.
Beginning where the novel ends and detailing both character's lives throughout Roger's second journey to Africa and return to Hollingford, this started as an attempt to create an ending that Gaskell could have written, but very quickly devolved into cheesy self-indulgence, oops.
