He pretends not to notice the flicker—the split-second drop of Sion’s smile, the corners of his mouth twitching downward like a glitch in the mask. It’s gone as quickly as it came, replaced by a grin even broader, even sharper than before. Like the rejection didn’t faze him in the slightest.
Riku is sure it didn’t—with a face like that, anyone would be happy to take up Sion’s offer, however shitty it may be.
“Maybe next time then,” Sion says, voice pitched lower now, intimate in a way that prickles along the back of Riku’s neck.

Sion heard from Wonbin that Sungchan nearly went head-to-head against the company for an unknown reason. Wonbin theorized that it had something to do with Shotaro. Concerned that the company would afflict Yushi the way they did Shotaro (according to Wonbin's theory), Sion fell down a rabbit hole of overthinking and overprotectiveness. It was strange, he was in a music store but he heard no music. Moreso, the soft rock that seeped out of the speakers played empty melodies. Every noise aside from music reminded him of Wonbin—the horns during rush hour, a chaotic symphony, reminded him of the first gig he went to, the drunken crowd’s off-beat screaming and slurred singing. The sound of a leaky faucet, a steady drip resembling Wonbin’s foot tapping, keeping tempo. He even followed the whistling of the wind, but each time it led him to nothing.
