    And he'd pocketed the pen.

    He hadn't thought twice about shoving it into the pocket of his old coat and moving along with his day, scribbling the words safely in his notebook of random lyric ideas on a fresh page as soon as he got back to his apartment.

    Until he'd woken up the next morning to find his bedside table covered in black ink, looking like a toddler had gotten a hold of a crayon or their parent's lipstick and scrawled loops all over the wood.

    The pen was laying there innocently on top of all the inky lines, and Wilbur knew, even in his sleepy haze, he hadn’t emptied his pockets the night before.

    or: wilbur makes a friend by picking up a pen off the sidewalk. this friend has a lot more baggage and oddities than he’d ever thought. oh- and did he mention his friend’s a ghost?
