To her surprise, Mickey Milkovich is standing on their porch, looking significantly less filthy than the last time she saw him, pants down and bleeding in her kitchen. He seems vaguely nervous, shifting backwards and forwards slightly on the balls of his feet.
Even before he says anything, Fiona has the sudden notion that he’s trying to be polite, make a good impression. For some reason she’s reminded of the boys in middle school who came to pick her up before a date, terrified they might be interrogated by Frank.
If he’s here for Debbie, she’s going to fucking kill him.

Summary
Watching him closely for another moment, Ian didn’t speak. Mickey made the conscious effort not to bristle under the scrutiny, because it wasn’t a big fucking deal and he really didn’t need Ian to make it out to be one.
He thanked about a decade of silently reading each other when Ian’s gaze finally flicked down to his drink, drawing away from Mickey, as he took another sip.
“That might just be the most romantic thing you’ve ever said to me,” he commented lightly, offhand, like it didn’t actually mean a million things. Like it didn’t mean I understand and I love you and challenge accepted. Because Ian was absolutely the person to hear Mickey say he’s never slow danced, and take it as a gauntlet being thrown down.

He can’t really look at Ian anymore, either, and when Ian lets out a quiet yeah, Mick, I’ll wait into the ground, Mickey stops breathing.
He watches Ian leave, the blood that used to fuel Mickey’s heart now dripping down Ian’s hands.
