Summary
As they run out and away from the commotion, Thomas realizes that Frypan, Brenda, and Jorge are nowhere to be seen. He stops, confused, before something, someone, grabs him and pulls him away from Newt.
He struggles, still having no idea what the hell is going on. Then a "Get your bloody hands off me!" makes his head snap up. Newt is being pulled away by someone in a military-like outfit, gun in one hand, Newt's wrist in the other. Thomas is filled with a sudden rage, and he's about to snap at that stupid soldier, but then he's being shoved into a white van, and Newt is disappearing from view.

He takes another small bite of his meal, trying not to think of the bacteria in it. Stan swallows thickly, letting the food slide through his esophagus (gross). He takes a swig of water, attempting to calm his nerves. It was all just so loud. And the small cut right above his wrist ached.
“Oh yeah, Stan went to camp with him!” Richie says, snapping his fingers.
“Went to camp with who?”
“Bill Denbrough,” he responded.

Again, Miss Kelley smiles, but it seems more strained now. Her patience is probably wearing thin. Mike probably wouldn’t be too happy himself if his only job was to talk to kids and they only responded with a vague, three word sentence. Mike wasn’t in the mood to be pleasant, though. Miss Kelley had basically dragged him here herself, so Mike didn’t have to say jack shit.
“Well, do you want to talk about it?”
Mike stiffens slightly. “Talk about what?”

Stan chuckles, warm and soft. Bill is soothed by it. He’s nervous, suddenly, because he hadn’t quite thought this through. Yes, Audra had broken up with him, but it’d been partially his fault as well. Audra had claimed that he “clearly wasn’t interested” and “wouldn’t even have sex with her”. Which was a little unfair, in his opinion. They’d only been dating a few months, did they really have to have sex already? But what had really hit him had been what she’d said after calling it off.
“For fuck’s sake Bill! You’re clearly in love with that bird boy anyhow!”

He remembers clinging onto Newt’s cold hand in the Berg so hard it hurt. They were covered in something wet, and he'd only later realize it was blood. Whose, he never found out. Maybe his own. Maybe Newt’s. It didn't matter. All he could do was look at Newt, unconscious and cold but breathing, feel his steady heartbeat underneath the tip of his fingers. He was alive. Newt is alive.
And now, he sits here, watching the steady rise and fall of Newt’s chest, the color on his cheeks, his freckles darkening under the kiss of the sun. He's alive. Newt is alive.
