Summary
There is a young god in the sky, and he needed the Winchesters to die in order to bring his father back to life.
For the Winchesters, death is a currency, and while Dean and Sam are intent on pretending that they are unaffected by the trauma of their most recent passing, and Castiel’s as well, Cas knows it isn’t true.
Now, he is human, and has to live with the consequences of his death, and the confession he’d uttered just prior to it. No matter the discomfort he, and others given another chance at life, feel about it.

The year is 2003, and Castiel has completed his undergraduate degree, quit his job at the gas station, and decided to follow his boyfriend across the continental United States to become a hunter.
Whether that bodes well for his career plan is tough to say, but he’s excited to see where the road takes him. Still, as he should know by now, life is rarely that simple, and certainly not when it comes to Dean Winchester.

Summary
Dean’s violent reaction to being unexpectedly woken has become something of a running joke among them, but Castiel can’t help but look past it to the underlying cause. It makes him ache to think that Dean feels so unsafe, so persecuted, before he’s even fully conscious.
Secretly, Castiel has been determined to work on that, to ease Dean into awareness in a less jarring way, smooth away one of the many stresses that follow him even in sleep. Now’s as good a time as any to try.

He’s in love with Cas. Hopelessly, completely, embarrassingly in love with him.
They’ve just never had what they needed to explore this before, never had time, solitude, a real moment to breathe.
But they have it now, Dean thinks. He’s made damn sure of that.

Summary
In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. When the time comes to move out, however, Castiel has to reconcile himself to the fact that men are going to go down and trust that Dean Winchester may well be the only person who can put them back together again.
