Out on the deck, the sun is so bright Carlos has to shield his eyes from the blinding reflections dancing on the deep blue of the lake.
"So beautiful," Jannik says. He has come to stand right behind him to look over his shoulder, but Carlos doesn't need to look to know his exact position, the exact scrunch of Jannik's face in studious awe as he contemplates the lake.
A part of him always knows exactly where Jannik is, a part of him always tries to figure out exactly what he's thinking. Years of playing Jannik have left their mark, and now Carlos couldn't erase the knowledge even if he tried.
He ignores the warmth pooling in his belly.
After Wimbledon, both Carlos and Jannik only want to go somewhere no one knows them, where they can have a real holiday. When Juanki offers Carlos his holiday home, he invites Jannik along for some time away from the spotlight.
Away from prying eyes, will they become closer than ever? And what will happen when the world of social media notices their absence?

He takes the jacket. It’s a split second decision really. Jannik was already out cold in his hotel room when Carlos had finished his media duties. Hot to the touch and flushed red, clammy and agitated, even in sleep. He hadn’t even got to talk to him properly, hadn’t even spoken to him since his own semi final, when their self-imposed pre-final embargo kicked in.

Truth be told, Bradley hadn’t been expecting to be team leader. Given Maverick’s continued criticism of his flying and the shit Bradley had said to him—it had startled him to be Maverick’s choice. It had startled Hangman too, judging by the way his jaw had tightened and how he’d looked away, avoiding Bradley’s eyes during the briefing. Bradley should have been ready for Hangman’s reaction after everything that had happened between them, but it had still stung.
(AU Canon Divergence where Rooster is Dagger One, Hangman is Dagger Two, and the mission goes as badly as in the movie. When Rooster is shot down, it's Hangman who follows after him.)

Peter had just swung in, his hair sweaty from the mask and his t-shirt wrinkled where he’d stuffed it in a bag. He was leaning in close to tell Johnny all about what he’d been hitting half an hour before. Their heads were bent together and they were wearing matching grins. Johnny’s arm was wrapped around Peter’s shoulders.
THEY STEAL EACH OTHER’S COFFEE! the caption in the corner gleefully informed, pointing out Peter’s hand creeping towards Johnny’s Starbucks. They looked happy and conspiratorial, like they were in on the world’s best secret. Johnny had kept it as his phone background for weeks.
