The old version of an ongoing project I have, written (mostly) in 2019-2020:
What if Team Skull existed on another tropical island, with no pokemon, but just as many mysterious occurrences and strange beings? Toloka, originally only trying to save his grandmother, ends up trying to save the island. And there's more thereatening it than just overly loud hip-hop beats and strange rhymes.

Summary
Phoenix takes an interest in solving a case at what used to be the Borscht Bowl Club, but finds himself quickly stumped upon realizing that the police had virtually swept the crime scene and left him with no evidence usable in court. And at the detention center the defendant straight up refuses to talk to him.
However, he encounters a different person that also stands at the center of the case, Tyson. Tyson is a nervous person who isn't even sure how many secrets they are hiding from themselves. With his magatama and his faith in people, Phoenix needs to help Tyson figure out themselves so that Tyson can help Phoenix figure out the case, as Tyson is his only hope here.
Note: While the lawyers in this story are canon characters, this case is centered around original characters that are transgender. Singular they is used extensively.
