“How could one fail to bestow such adoration and desire for someone of thine caliber, my love?” For a split moment, Will considered getting lost in the moment; letting this version of Mike make him feel wanted and worth something more than he ever felt he could be. Another part of him though screamed at him to wake up from this dream or else fear his real life being seen as a nightmare. He didn’t deserve love from Mike; and he definitely didn’t deserve love from this Mike. This Mike that looked at him as though all the world’s prettiest constellations could be found in his eyes, and his eyes alone.

Mike and Will both believe that the other isn't interested in them, but when Michael the Brave, a literal knight in shining armor appears, looking almost identical to the Mike that Will has spent years pining over, he quickly learns that they managed to take the next step in another universe. Mike hates that goddamn necklace.
The thing is, he isn’t even being irrational; the material is cheap, and he’s certain that in the next few days, Will is going to have a greenish tinge stained to his porcelain neck.
It hasn’t happened yet. But it will.
“Why are you staring at my neck?” Will’s voice cuts into the silence, lips quirked in amusement. Mike forces himself to meet his best friend’s eyes, and as he often is these days, is rendered speechless.
“I– uh.” Mike looks around his bedroom, as if something in the piles of crap around the space is going to bring him inspiration. Max simply raises her eyebrows, and Lucas offers no help at all. “I thought I saw a bug?”
Silence. Max chews her lip to hold back laughter, and Mike’s fingers flex because he might throw Will’s sketchbook at her. Mike Wheeler knows a great many things, but understanding why this particular necklace is ruining his life is not one of them. “I know, I know! It’s just—I don’t know, I’m feeling a little nervous about it.” Will anxiously tapped his fingers on the countertop, staring at the slow drip of the coffee. “I don’t love the idea of lying to Mike–what if he completely freaks out?”

Will blinks, “What are you talking about?”
“I’m mad because it was supposed to be me!” Mike shouts it desperately, like a plea, like this is making him go crazy, and fuck, maybe it is, “After everything—at the end—it was meant to be me. Not him. I don’t want it to be him. I want it to be me.”
Or, Mike doesn't realize his own feelings, until Will's are staring him dead in the face. Vecna's gone, they're nearing the end of their senior year, and all of a sudden Will has a boyfriend. Everything goes downhill pretty quickly from there.

Someone chokes behind them, and for a long moment, Mike honestly thinks he's misheard him. The look on his face is dead serious, though, stoic in a way that makes it very clear he's not joking.
“What?” he croaks. He looks over at Will, who looks just as caught off guard as he feels.
“You need not be shy,” Michael reassures them, back straightening. “I, too, was hesitant when William and I first began our courtship. I understand.”
When Mike's doppelganger shows up dressed like something straight out of one of their D&D campaigns, he thinks he should be thrilled. There are alternate universes. There are alternate universes with knights and wizards and dragons. And, honestly, Mike probably would be thrilled, under normal circumstances. The guy is just so weird about him and Will.
