    Summary

Ilya hums, playing the card he's been considering for this entire conversation. “We could make more interesting, yes? A bet.”

“A bet,” Shane repeats, eyes flashing. “Like what?”

The reporter cuts in. “What about wearing the other player’s jersey?”

They both turn to her, and Shane says, “Like, the loser wears the winner’s jersey?”

“Maybe at the next game in a couple of months?”

“Is a good idea,” Ilya muses, nudging Shane’s elbow. “You will look better in my jersey than in Montreal jersey.”

Shane makes a low noise, his eyes holding a bit of a spark when he looks back to Ilya. It’s what Ilya was hoping for—the tiniest crack in the mask. He can see a hint of exasperated affection around the corners of Shane’s eyes, a little bit of fire burning just beneath the surface. It sends a thrill down Ilya’s spine, and he wonders if Shane will be snarky when Ilya gets him naked tonight.

“That’s not happening,” Shane replies, shaking his head. “Because you’re not winning.”

    Ilya should have known better.

    Summary

When he’s thirteen, and there’s other kid heroes popping up, and the Justice League is starting to reckon with whether they’re okay with any kid being a hero at all, Clark talks to him. That’s how Dick realises.

They go to a diner. They always go to a diner, when Clark wants to talk. Clark feels safe being emotionally vulnerable in diners for reasons Dick can’t piece together yet.

"It was your idea," Clark asks, once the waitress has brought their food, enough other people already eating to create a comfortable background hum of noise, "Wasn’t it? Being Robin?"

    Summary

Every Boston Raider knows that although their captain has a girl in every port, he’s got a soft spot for the one in Montreal. Dr. Shane Hollander knows it’s better to have a semi-regular source of casual sex than try to make a relationship work during residency. Ilya Rozanov knows that the doctor he’s fucking in Montreal is unaware that he plays hockey, and in fact probably thinks he’s Bratva.

    Summary

“No,” he says, smiling gently, like he doesn't know how irritating he's being. “Is my room first, da? You should speak with front desk.”

    Hollander stares at him.

And then he starts to laugh.

You ask the front desk,” he shoots back, in between his odd wheezes. Ilya's heart starts to pound in double time, because this is not—this cannot be Shane Hollander playing bed chicken with him. Their competitiveness is fierce, to be certain, but surely, Hollander would be the bigger person, no? “This is my fucking room, Rozanov. Wild horses couldn't drag me away.”

OR: Ilya's apartment is under construction. Shane's in town for a game. It'd be a shame if they somehow had the same hotel room.

[or, or: we need some more goddamn 'there was only one bed' out here.]

    Summary

“Should call you the Ottawa Puppies,” says the Toronto centre, Svensson. As an insult it makes no sense, so Ilya ignores it, until he continues, “Hear Hollander keeps you on a short leash.”

Ilya is the captain, so if anything, he should be holding the leash. In English, you can be singular or plural, but he knows what Svensson is trying to say. He is saying Ilya Rozanov, you are Hollander’s bitch.

“Only sometimes,” Ilya replies, grinning. He wins the face off.

OR: Ilya trains himself to be a very, very good guard dog for Shane.
