He didn’t hate it. He should hate it, especially as he could tell her gaze ventured further and further into knight-in-shining-armor territory, long ago having veered away from Father Figure™. Or perhaps it was a bit of both.
No.
But it was harmless, and he couldn’t bring himself to say something to her, not when it was clear she had so little that she could cling to with her vice-like grip. Not when it was clear that dear Taggie had so much love to give and would share it with ardor if given the opportunity. Patrick away at college, Caitlin off in her own little world. Declan and Maud with their heads so far up their arses, Rupert was surprised they hadn’t developed a medical condition. And Taggie, Taggie was a born caretaker, flitting around cleaning up everyone’s messes and ensuring they remained well-fed. So much adoration within her begging to be felt.
So, if she had a bit of a schoolgirl crush, if he could be that person for her…the one to look after her and make sure her needs were met, then so be it.
