Summary
renting a lakeside cabin for an entire off-season to lick your wounds in private after a breakup should, in theory, be an entirely foolproof route to healing, and finding yourself, and all that other wellbeing bullshit.
it's not like the universe is going to drop the love of your life on your doorstep, right?

Summary
Stede brings his arm up so his cheek has something to rest on, and he breathes a little sharper as he resituates himself, and the entirety of Ed’s body feels like it’s floating with both the residual panic of before, and the overwhelming calm Stede has managed to conjure in this tiny bathroom now. And thank you doesn’t seem anywhere near big enough for what Stede has given him, and Ed’s not sure he’d be able to say it again without his voice breaking something awful, but he can try. He can sure as fuck try.
or: the art of fuckery, but slightly different.

Summary
He ducks under the ridge of the skull, unclips his bow, slips an arrow into the housing, and creeps around until he has a decent view of the trail. The stranger has slowed, staring up at the leviathan as they approach, hands on their hips. Ed steps out into view, raises his bow, and pauses.
The stranger, as unknown as he currently is, is cute.
Hylian, most likely. A little shorter than Ed, but broad looking under his tunic and cloak, pack sticking up over the top of his head, and visibly stuffed with god-knows-what. There’s a physical map sticking out from one of his pockets, and leaves in his hair, and he’s clearly not been gifted with powers of observance, because Ed’s been aiming a bow at him for the best part of two minutes, and he still hasn’t noticed.
And then, all at once, his gaze drops, and his eyes widen, and he all but screams.
“I’M FRIENDLY!”
or: what if Ed and Stede just happened to be citizens in the Kingdom of Hyrule? And what if they had a serendipitous meet cute at the Great Eldin Skeleton and then fell in love? Suspend your disbelief, because this is that fic.

Summary
Ed is a wonderful houseguest. He’s quiet, and he’s tidy, and he mostly keeps to himself. He gets up with the birds, leaves half a kettle of freshly boiled water for Stede every morning, and is out of the door before Stede’s even entertained the idea of getting out of bed.
He’s also ridiculously, devastatingly handsome.
And therein, lies Stede's problem.
or: Stede gets reluctantly strong armed into hosting a friend of a friend for a week when their original accomodation falls through. Which would have been fine, uneventful even, if his new houseguest hadn't turned out to be absolutely, one-hundred percent his type.

Summary
Ed can hear birdsong. Birdsong signalling that something in the ecosystem has shifted, dramatically. In a way that was impossible to notice when you’re immersed in it. And it hits him all at once, the realisation that the last ten years are coming to an end, that his period of bare bones survival is going to start shifting into something more active, something faster, something with significantly more intent behind it. After all, nobody tells you when the aftermath becomes just…after. Nobody can tell you when you’re going to feel safe enough to start living again.
or: Ten years after the world ended, Ed's running out of reasons to stay alive. Until one turns up on his literal doorstep, forcing him to reevaluate his definition of hope.

Come to karaoke, Lucius had said. It’s a good crew of regulars, he’d said. It’s not officially a queer bar but it’s definitely a queer bar, he’d said.
One of my friends is one of the most beautiful men on the planet was definitely not one of the phrases he’d used to try and convince Stede to come. Might have achieved his desired outcome a little faster if that had been part of his proposal.
or: eight times Ed and Stede don't have sex after Friday Night Karaoke at Jackie'z, and one time they absolutely, definitely do.

Summary
There's a short list of people Ed should know better than to trust, and it pretty much begins and ends with the same fucking person. The same drunk person. The same drunk person who knows his middle name, date of birth, his phone passcode and somehow, without looking, the three digits on the back of his debit card.
She's his best fucking friend in the world, but fucking hell she's a fucking nightmare.
or: a meddling bestie, brand new nipple piercings, a crush he may or may not do anything about, day drinking, and a good thorough railing: the edward teach story.

Summary
“Hey,” Ed says softly, and Stede wishes, only for a moment, that the world could see this. This man that sits beneath the legend and the myths and the stories. This man, this very human, very delicate man, in his robe, with his book, eyes all sleepy and soft.
This man, finally getting to live the life he never thought he was capable of having.

This is fucking bullshit.@blackbeard
First bit of decent queer indigenous rep in my fucking lifetime and it goes and gets cancelled after 2 seasons? @badminbros racist? Homophobic? Both?@blackbeard
Fuck this really fucking sucks.or: When Ed's favourite TV show gets prematurely cancelled after two seasons, he doesn't expect his impassioned twitter rants on the topic to draw the attention of the show's very handsome, very devastated lead. He also doesn't expect to fall into a whirlwind long-distance romance with the lead in question, but apparently that's his life now. So fuck it, why not lean the fuck in?

Summary
“I spent months imagining you,” Stede says, stepping right up into Ed’s space, hand resting on his shoulder. “Weeks and months trying to piece together the information I had about you, trying to form it into some kind of visual. You’re everything and yet somehow nothing like I conjured up.”
Ed takes a breath, leans a little closer, pressing his temple to Stede’s so he can feel the words against his skin.
“There are so many gaps in my knowledge of you. How you look, and how you feel. How you taste. How you smell. I want to learn all about you. All the spaces in the jigsaw I’ve spent all summer building in my head. I want to finish it.”

Summary
Ed’s used to visitors, though the novelty of his home has worn off in the last eighteen months or so, the uninvited guests becoming fewer and further between. He’s used to curiosity, and questions he rarely feels like answering. He’s used to people forgetting that this is, in fact, his home, and not some out of the way tourist attraction.
He’s used to strangers.
But he’s starting to think that perhaps, not all his visitors need to stay strangers.
or: Ed has a simple life. He has a self-built, off grid, mostly self-sustaining house tucked away in the middle of a forest. He has five chickens, and a partially feral cat. He lives alone, and he likes it that way. Until the appearance of an incredibly nosy, incredibly handsome stranger three weekends in a row has him questioning every self-imposed rule he's ever set himself.

Summary
Lucius just hadn’t anticipated somewhere else being… here, in this goth palace of a pirate captain’s cabin at the other end of the harbour.
Or, someone else being… this incredibly attractive man, all hair and leather and eyes, who’s sitting back in a great spiky black throne of a chair, eyeing him up and down with a frank, heated stare before opening his mouth, and in a voice that seems equal parts honey and smoke saying, “The Gentleman Pirate, I presume?”
“All depends on who’s asking.”
~
In which Stede answers Izzy's request to come and meet his boss by sending Lucius in his place. The man Lucius finds at the other end has a very, very keen interest in getting to know the Gentleman Pirate, but the Gentleman Errand Boy will do just as well...

Summary
“The mosaics are fucked. The whole building is fucked. You listening to me? You have to leave. Now.”
The Gentleman blinks at him, and at the moment Ed’s not sure who’s near them, emergency responder wise, his last check had the building reading as clear, but he can never really be sure who’s within hearing distance at any given point during something like this. He just hopes the next words out of his mouth are drowned out by the cacophony of noise around them.
“Stede, please.”
or: probably not the best idea to fall for the one other person regularly putting themselves in dangerous situations for the greater good, but Ed will be the first to argue the virtues of high risk: high reward.

“I think you’re my best friend,” Stede says, wide eyed and serious, and that’s not—that’s not the phrase Ed was bracing himself for. “Maybe the best one I’ve ever had. You know that, right? I just needed you to know that. Thought it was important that you knew that.”
or: why can't a couple be both best friends and lovers?

It feels good, to go under, to silence the world a little, to let his thoughts go quiet. Good in a way that slipping under the surface of the ocean has never felt.
