Summary
“I’m just concerned that she’s taking advantage of your kindness.” That wasn’t a complete lie, Robby did think Dennis had a soft heart for underdogs. He wasn’t sure as to why, but it was crystal-clear that nothing brought more satisfaction to Dennis than to help someone in desperate need.
“As opposed to you taking advantage of my kindness?”
“When have I ever taken advantage of your kindness?!” Robby tried to sound sarcastic and funny, but ended up sounding wounded and vulnerable. For some reason, Dennis seemed to enjoy his reaction.
“Nowhere near enough times.”

“You’re home early!” Brian crows excitedly. His chin digs into Zeke’s stomach, a familiar ache.
“Yeah, I am.” Zeke bends and, even though his son is getting too old to be carried around, scoops him up. Brian reacts swiftly and wraps his arms around Zeke’s neck and his legs around Zeke’s torso. “What are you doing here?” Zeke asks, not unkind. He wasn’t expecting to see his son tonight, though he isn’t going to complain.
William’s voice carries from the kitchen. “Something came up at work, so Lisa asked if she could drop him off. He was helping me cook.” His voice is fondly teasing.
