He was obsessed with Simon beyond reasonable comprehension. He'd marveled at Simon's mutated form from the first day he and Rocky had dragged the man aboard from a brief excursion to the odd moon on their course to Erid. Scientific fascination, however, had warped into a heady need over the months. The gills fluttering when he yawned, scales glistening after a shower, maw of teeth flexing as he spoke. Grace had yearned to put his hands on them, to learn and touch and feel and admire, but Simon's exasperation at his questions and curiosity had clammed up the notion into a tight, hidden desire buried in his heart. So when Simon had asked for his assistance, Grace had done his very best to suppress his wild eagerness when he'd agreed.

Ryland Grace is a passionate middle school teacher. Giving classes was not enough, so three years ago he started a science YouTube channel. He's pretty successful, but he'd never dream of leaving his job. He loves reading, watching movies, nerding out, hanging out with his roommates Rocky and Adrian and, occasionnally, throw it down on the dancefloor.
Simon Jones is a bored-out-of-his-mind IT guy. He's been looking for another job for the past few weeks, he's had enough. His life consists of going to his shitty work, hitting the gym, going home and hanging out with his roommate Ava. He loves catching up on all the books, movies and other media he didn't have access to back growing up. He also loves watching educational YouTube videos to satisfy his curiosity. He particularly enjoys Space with Grace and always makes sure to leave a comment, to which the creator answers without fault.
One day, Grace announces he'll be at a convention right there in San Francisco. Ava and Simon decide to go.Simon meets his favourite YouTuber at a convention. They become friends. Just friends?

Summary
Simon the convict died on AT-5. Simon the convict was resurrected on Erid.
When the seedling from the Last Tree of Eden exploded on AT-5, both the tree it became and the convict it enveloped appeared inside an oxygenated biodome on the alien planet of Erid.
Simon survived his nightmare on the blood moon to find himself in what he was happy to call Heaven: a place that welcomed him with open limbs and asked nothing more than that he survive and be happy.
Through his growing friendships with the Eridians who knew the man best, Simon slowly learns about Dr. Captain Ryland Grace, the man who's biodome he now inhabits. As the days pass, Simon begins to realize that although Dr. Grace has been dead for years, he's not as gone as the Eridians think. Simon is sharing the biodome with a ghost who literally haunts his every waking moment and speaks to him in his dreams... and Simon is afraid he may be falling for the dead man.

"M'fine." He pushed out, he's not far from the hospital that Lars goes to. Where Dr. Dagmar is. The only hospital that Lars trusted. Should he go to that hospital? Do dogs that take care of themselves still get loved and cared for? "W's stabbed."
"Excuse me?!" Ooft, he sounded mad. Should Casey not have told him? But then he'd just track blood all over the sheets and furniture like a mucky, dirty stray. And nobody liked a mucky dog. "Did you just say you were stabbed?!"
"Uh-huh," Driver nodded his head, feeling a little woozy even though he knew he hadn't lost nearly enough blood for that. He'd never had anyone care for him like Lars did. Or get angry for him. "M'sorry, Lars." The blood is warm on his palm and he can feel the tackiness of drying blood trying to stick Lars' undershirt and sweater to his skin. He hiccuped, falling into a lull of haze at the sound of Lars' voice and concern. He felt warm all over, the safety of his car, the lingering Lars scent that's been rubbed all over his clothes before he left and the aching of his mark scars all serving to pull him deeper into his haze. "M'really, really sorry."
