Summary
The first thing Grian sees is the blinding light of the desert sun, hot on his skin that would no doubt be pink when he would eventually retreat to the shade.
The first thing Grian hears is silence, nothing. The air around him is perfectly empty and for a moment Grian wonder if when he died, his friends were allowed to move on without him. It’s all quiet. At least, before his ears begin to ring and a gate opens with a chorus of desperate and confused wails that are led in by a merciless conductor.
When Grian sits up and tries to get his bearings, he soon realizes where he is and why his head is so full.
Grian had won the game. He had been the last alive. Then he threw himself off of Pizza’s grave to be the finishing period for this dreadful story he had been a part of.
That much was right. Grian should be dead.
But looking at his hands, curling them up into fists and wiggling his fingers, Grian realized something had gone wrong.
Grian was still alive.

Impulse’s eyes lit up as he started pacing, from the outside it looked almost as if Impulse’s thoughts were powered by his feet’s movements. “That's the big question, isn’t it? I think everything has an instinctual fear of the mycelium. Players being the only exception for… Whatever reason. Mooshrooms are cows already infected by the mycelium, tangled in its web from birth with no idea of life without it and with no way to get off the island; they just remain a consistent food source for the mycelium. I think mycelium is best spread through players and…” Impulse looked down towards Ren’s lab, the others in the conference room following his gaze, the last few words going unsaid but understood.

Grian woke up slowly, scattered thoughts and memories that felt like a kaleidoscope harshly and righteously shoved inside his brain slowly coalescing into something coherent but was quickly interrupted by the ache in his stomach. The soul-deep ache in his stomach that seemed to rip through the fog that permeated his entire being in this moment, just to rip him to shreds just as easily. Grian wished he didn’t know this feeling, wished he would stop getting himself into situations like this, wished that the Watcher’s hadn’t been right about him all along, wished that he could just be normal-
Grian forces his eyes open, desperate to eat, to ease this torment in any way he can and is pleasantly met with a dim lab; slowly sitting up Grian noticed the cannula in his arm, following the cannula up the thin light pink tube up to a bag, filled with a similar liquid. When did Ren get the budget and equipment for this? Grian brushes it off, it seems to be helping him right now so it wasn’t much of a problem.

The joke dies on Ren’s tongue as he finally gets a good look at what he had only seen just a bit of earlier. Ren gets a good look at the grey-purple webs that curl around his friend’s body and in the light of his lab finally sees just how sickly Grian looks.

Grian slowly stood up and turned around to see his wings in the mirror. Bound to his back with mycelium his vibrant macaw wings, unable to move. The mold had crawled up to be in about the middle of his back, taking his wings hostage.

Summary
Grian got on with building what he and everyone else in the Resistance would call the Source Block. It just felt right for the one dubbed Mother Spore to create the source and home for the fungus. Everything about this just felt right. Soon the Resistance would make the shopping district right again as well. It was just a matter of time.

It was not a good week for Fabian Aramais Seacaster. It just seemed like he could not win. So far he had almost had his brains eaten after being pushed into a fight it was clear he would not win, ran away from said fight in self-preservation, was told he’d have his shit in his mouth, got caught in some rope that was dangerously close to his neck, fell into a depression, fell into the ocean in his sleep, and caught fantasy pneumonia from walking in the cold after being dropped on the pier. Fabian just can not win recently.
So when Fabian seems to be unable to keep food down he figures it’s just a symptom of pneumonia and that he may even deserve it.
