    Summary

The ghost before him does not reach forward to tug on Obi-Wan’s braid like his Master would have, once upon a time. After all, the ghost is not there and the braid is not there and he is not there either, is he?

The Force is strong on this planet, the weight of it sinking into his bones, and it blurs the lines between dreams and waking.

Or, the Mortis arc goes a little bit sideways. (It’s fine. Don’t worry.)

each year the wind and rain eat through the stone that is now solid under your feet; each winter crystals of frost widen the cracks that emerge. a heart of stone is a heart nonetheless, and there is a fault line running through yours that one day will split.

    Summary

a lone building stands in the middle of the dust-choked plains, bordered by fractured stone. red and yellow lights flash forlornly through the mist. despite the frantic swerving of the bird adeptus driving the car, one can make out the words on the glowing sign above the restaurant:

    welcome to mcdiluc’s.

    Summary

The place where Raine is held is cold.

It strips the warmth from her, and the chill that results is more piercing than any confinement she’s endured, any prison cell or containment facility. And though she knows, logically, that the coldness should be the same here or there, something’s different—something indecipherable and wrong.

“Edalyn…Clawthorne,” they’re saying, edged with something too hard for their voice. They stand in the way a chair unfolds: legs first, then back, then arms. They pivot on their heel, a perfect, calculated maneuver. Their head turns next, in a movement all too fluid, and their eyes meet hers as their arm lifts from their side in a jaunty wave. Softer now, but still hard-edged and unfamiliar. “What a surprise!”

(Or: Faced with the shell of someone that no longer recognizes her, Eda searches for the fragments of a Raine she once knew.)
