The way he effortlessly brought laughter and joy to the tower day after day, even when the team had just dragged themselves back in from a grueling mission or PR stunt. There were so many reasons.
“Not so you could be a big bad super hero, Bob. Because I saw myself in you, and it gave me something to fight for. And then I spent time with you, however short, but it grows longer every day and only makes me more sure. You might carry a Void with you, Reynolds, but the world would be a much darker place without you in it. I don’t want to return to that world.”

“What, um,” he said, and immediately there was the guard on his face, the mask. “What did— what do I— what do you think I might want to talk about?”
Yelena swallowed. The doors were still open. “Oh, I don’t know. Uh, like the, uh, crazy things my dad says. Like, maybe if you wanted to talk about that, I thought, you know, you could come in and we could talk about that.”
Bob didn’t move for a moment. His dark eyes were fixed on the floor, on the crack between the elevator and the floor to her room. On the void between, tiny and endless, a crack of pitch blackness in the building that eyes never saw and a finger couldn’t fit into, but a void all the same. “Do you… want to talk about that?” he asked, his voice quiet and low and cautious.

“Wait!” Bob lunges forward before Yelena can take so much as a single step, grabbing her by the wrist. “You’re not wearing a parachute!”
Yelena's eyebrows shoot upward, highly amused. “Not wearing–? Bob, whatever gave you that idea?”
Bob falters, mouth bobbing around soundless words, suddenly unsure. He squints at her gray sweater, as if he could make out the object out by sheer will alone. “... Are you?”
“Yes, of course, Bob– what do you take me for? Look, see?” Yelena points to her chest, urging him to lean closer for a better look. “Right here, this spot right here, that little dark bit you see that blends with the light and the dark, that is the—”
Her hands shoot out without warning, shoving a screaming Bob off the ledge.
Or: Yelena helps Bob face his fear of heights, among other things.

Someone had set a fire in protest outside the United Nations. Smoke rose, obscuring the flags. “NOAA said this morning that all of the Eastern Seaboard needs to be evacuated. American refugees are flooding into Canada. Too many tensions, huh? Going to cause a war if we don’t do something. So what are we waiting for?”
“A vote.” Bucky’s voice was sour and quiet as he shoved off from the wall and walked over. “We’re a team. We act like one. So we’ll vote on it.”
