Guren is an assassin so obviously you would think that he isn't afraid of a lot of things, but Guren would be the first to admit that he was afraid of disappointing his grandparents who raised him. That would explain why he had been lying to them about a marriage and kids that didn't exist.
Shinya didn't think that him saving Guren from bleeding to death in some alley way would result in him being proposed to, he didn't want to do it but there is a lot one could do with 1.2 million dollars. Shinya just had to pretend to be married to Guren for a year... How hard could that be.
