Summary
Light, slicing through the gap in his heavy curtains to shine down on the creature at the end of Victor's bed, new on his coltish legs. Herr Harlander is gone, and the creature is awake, but they won't be alone for long; carriage wheels crunch on the pebbled forecourt and Victor can hear Elizabeth's melodic voice tracing up the stairs from the atrium.
A different take, in which William and Elizabeth come for Victor before he has a chance to lock up the creature. And Harlander has no syphilis, because I said so. Not canon compliant - too many people get to be happy.

Elaine Thauma awakes in a desert wasteland, her body covered in injuries with no memory as to how she got there. She begins her trek through the strange new violet sands as a shrill caw ruptures through the air where Elaine finds herself fleeing from predatory birds and carnivorous canines. She is saved by a knight in dull, black armor and brought to a tavern, the only prominent silhouette breaking apart the landscape. Elaine is formally introduced to her knight; Val. It was agreed that she would be offered a place to stay and work at the tavern until her memories resurface. There she meets vivacious Marietta and Hidorah, whom she will work with. Slowly, she remembers her role as a recent runaway bride-to-be for her home nation of Asteria. As she continues to work at the tavern, she grows closer to her coworkers with occasional visits from Val that continue to unearth things Elaine has never felt before. A trip to Braiewood sheds light on economic struggle and lack of press on the state of the nation. Elaine's hand is forced after an unprovoked attack from Asterian guards and knows that she must travel back to her estate, where plans of war are found. It is in Elaine's hands to save elven land and stop war between nations.
