When they spend every waking second together, Elphaba develops her first crush on her best friend. Senior year, Elphaba confesses her feelings for Galinda. But when her confession results in an abrupt end to their friendship and leaves vague rejection in her wake, Elphaba has no choice but to let her go. Four years later, their paths cross again and Galinda still isn’t ready to admit how she felt. But luckily… her Elphie is patient.

Elphaba is going down the line, shaking each hand and trying her best to commit every name and face to memory. Until she gets to Galinda.
They lock eyes, Elphaba tries her best to read Galinda's expression before they explain to everyone that they already know each other. But before she can say anything, Galinda sticks out her hand and introduces herself as if Elphaba hasn’t committed the curve of each letter and the sound of each syllable to memory.
She smiles, a fake friendly smile, one you’d display for someone you’ve never met before. “Glinda.”
Well, technically, that is a new name.

“No, pleas–” Galinda looks like she might pass out, the hands over her mouth trying to push her jaw closed, but she evidently can’t stop talking. “I told everyone I wanted to kiss you even though I d–” Galinda stops and tries again. “I don’t w– Don’t want to–”
Elphaba’s knees are weak as she studies her roommate. Something has taken over Galinda, something magical, it must have. Galinda is gagging, trying to finish her sentence over and over again, but she fails, an expression between confusion, horror, and fury in her eyes.

Galinda huffed. “Well, alright”, she relented. “I will say it, just…” She hesitated, nervous. Terribly nervous because– “I needed to be sure you knew. And that you were ready.”
“I’m ready, sweetheart”, Elphaba promised, just the slightest bit exasperated but staying ever gentle. “Whatever it is, you can tell me.”
Galinda looked away from her wonderful face, bracing herself, her conflicting emotions of joy and anxiety making her eyes water as she hoped ever so dearly for the best. She squeezed her beloved’s hands, met her eyes once more and finally confessed:“I’m pregnant.”
