Summary
"What is two plus two?"
Hmm. Someone is talking right now...they should stop doing that. It’s quiet for a lingering moment like the voice actually heard him, then- "What is two plus two?"
Rude. If the only way to get a little peace and quiet is to answer a kindergarten question, he’ll answer it. Two plus two equals- “Hnnfl.”
Oh. That’s not right.
OR
Frank wakes up in space with no memories and no one within a dozen light-years who can answer his questions. Two truths soon make themselves abundantly clear. Humanity is counting on him to find a solution to the Sun dying before it wipes out life on Earth. And more shockingly, he's not actually as alone in solving this as he first thought.

Summary
Melissa “Mel” King and Frank Langdon have been drawn to each other from the day they met. When Mel realises she barely knows who she is, she is certain of one thing. Dr. Langdon is the person she feels most like herself with.
Frank Langdon’s life is in ruins, even whilst he’s trying to fix it. The one bright spark of his day is Mel but he can’t taint it.
Mel is afraid Dr. Langdon’s going to leave and she needs him, at least until she figures out how to replicate this bond and find her true self. Only she has no clue that the last thing on Frank’s mind is leaving her. And definitely not her finding another person to replace him.

Summary
“I’m not leaving,” he says, “But we don’t have to talk about it right now if you don’t want. Becca’s all taken care of, and Emma’s getting her discharged. Okay?”
Despite everything, she nods.
“Okay.”
Langdon smiles, the left corner of his lips pulling gently to the side, awkward and earnest, and sits—crisscross applesauce, Mel thinks— in front of her. “Okay about Becca, or okay let’s talk?”
Mel takes a deep breath in. She thinks about the photo on her phone, arms wound tightly around her father’s bicep, and the petulant feeling in her gut on the swing set. She thinks about the burning feeling she would get whenever she saw Becca leap through the air, looking for all the world like an angel, setting sun lighting her brunette pigtails into a vibrant orange, and names it.
Envy.
She exhales slowly.
“Okay,” Mel says, finally looking at Langdon directly. “Okay, let’s talk.”

Summary
The car pooling, she thought, represented this blurring of boundaries: not quite work but not quite personal life, either. If somebody asked her if she ever saw Langdon outside of the hospital, what should she say?

Summary
“I’m—we’re glad you’re back.” She smiled, adjusting her stethoscope against her neck. I’m glad you’re back, is what he knows she was going to say. It tugs at his chest. Knowing there was a person in this emergency department that he didn’t destroy his entire reputation with made him a little bit less anxious about today. Even if said person only knew him for exactly one whole shift.
Frank Langdon is very normal about Mel King.
or the one where Frank tries hard not to fall for Mel.
